Website rules say max entry is 4 boats, And they must be v-hull and 1000-1600hp. Is that the long term plan for this series?

I am very interested in running this "race". My Race boat does not meet the 1000-1600hp.

Is this an Offshore Race or World Record attempt?

A real race with multiple classes for different sizes of boats with "loose" rules, that would be awesome!! Have it boat size class limited to make is somewhat competitive, but not engine hp or number of engines. 40'-50', 30'-39' and under 30'. The 100 miles of open ocean will help even out the field.

Back in the mid 2000's HORBA ran the Sunny Isles (Haulover Cut) to Bimini and back races.

We had various classes made up for different boat lengths and HP ratings.

The start of the race was by individual boats spaced about a minute apart. When a boat crossed the starting line the time on that boat would start and run, until it returned from Bimini and crossed the line coming back. Elapsed time determined the winner and places in each class.

1.) It was my understanding that the Ocean Cup is a timed event specifically to establish a new speed record for this old Gateway Marathon course.

2.) Other boats were to be permitted to race on the same course in various classes, the same as we did back with the Sunny Isles to Bimini race.

3.) In addition, we would also have Old Restored Race boats and modern boats, going over and back, on the same course in an Old School Cruise.

I have reached out to Ocean Cup, to see if their rules were printed up before they asked us to be associated with them.

Maybe just the record setting boats are running under one set of rules UIM, and the other groups are running under APBA or P1

Hope to have an answer quickly. Thanks

Hey SailTexas186548, Last year the attempt was 1 race boat with several support boats. Last year was limited to v-hulls but that restriction has been removed for 2020 and as far as I know there was never a horse power limit. Would you email the link you found to [email protected]? Thanks!

I got to believe a big cat will crush that record with decent seas.

Correct. A lot depends on the sea state.
In 2018, the Great Race which is known for rough, tricky water on race day, the seas were uncharacteristically flat.
Motul Monster 46' Skater dominated averaging 101.474 (over the UIM 80.7mile course)! Lucas Oil finished 2nd with engine problems and Mr. Solo finished 3rd also with engine problems.
