Aircraft Paint Stripper works great(The thick gel stuff).
A gallon would do it!

Bromide tablets work, too! Used for swimming pool maintenance.

Did I read correctly? Two feet in diameter? That's pretty fat. Make sure you don't kill it and then have it fall on your boat. That, I'm sure, will cause a lot more damage than sap!

Safety aside, if you want to kill a big tree you just need to girdle it by cutting through the bark to the fiber all the way around trunk. About an inch or two deep depending on the tree. This stops the tree's ability to transfer nutrients from the leaves to the roots and vice-versa -- eventually the tree dies (just make sure no one is hugging it at the time ).

Ask your closest farmer for a little 2-4-D. Spinkle about a Coke Cap full around the tree. NO NOT PUT ANY MORE THAN THAT. If you need to thin it to make it all the way around the tree. Use Diesel as a thinner. Do Not get any on your shoes. And Do Not do this on a windy day. Trust Me it will work.

I learned more form Crop Dusting than I should have!!!

Don't know much about 'em. Up here we usually just drink 'em (never knew they came from trees)

Turdon will kill the saplings and if you are able to pinatrate the outer bark migth kill the tree also. You may also just try to squirt it onto the leaves and see if they transfer it into the root system.
