Mercury 400 V8 4.6 litre coming?

Hi,

I hope you are well and healthy in this difficult times.

I will replace my Verado 400R next autumn, and wonder if you think Mercury will release a V8 4.6 litre 400R fx in 2022? I need to sell my engine while I am still under warranty. The Verado 400R is a great engine, just to stress that https://www.screamandfly.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Take care.

Greetings from Norway. Toffen

The only new motor I've heard rumor of is a 15" version of the 300R with a raised rev limiter - possibly 6,800? It would make sense for Mercury to offer a motor to replace the iconic 2.5/280/ROS that was such a popular motor on the small boats 22' and under. I highly doubt we will see anything new other than possibly that motor. Mercury has no reason to spend large amounts of money developing any more new models for an economy that will be struggling to get back on it's feet after this global economic setback. We all should feel so lucky that Mercury has given us all the great new motors they have in the past few years, as it brought about a revolution in the industry and allowed the manufacturers to sell a lot of new boats over the past 4-5 years.

Good question I do wonder what they will come out with next!

Since we are all bored what do people think the best way to achieve 350HP and 400HP on the new V8 platform assuming they discontinue the verado someday?

Am I correct that the 300v8 is naturally aspirated and the 450R supercharged?

Also wonder if a 500 is possible!

I assume the 450R is a 'built up' supercharged version of the 300R. If so, to build a 400 would probably take as much work and engineering as it takes to build the 450. The price premium on the 450 is pretty tough but to build another model so close in power wouldn't really make sense would it? I think Merc want you to save more pennies and buy a 450. :D

Makes it hard if you want to update a 400 Verado but I don't know how they could achieve it without supercharging.

I believe you will see something to bridge the gap on the new platform. Why would they not want to streamline manufacturing and use the same block for a HP range 300-450. As good as the verados have been my bet is they will. Not everyone can afford the price of the 450. I agree a 400 may not make sense but how about a 375 range with all the torque that would perform like a current 400 I6.
The new platform is designed to add more cylinders and easily become a V10 which would probably allow the 500hp+ models in the future also.

Marketing a 500+ hp V10 would be the worlds easiest Marketing Project - simply the "Perfect 10" for the CC and big cat market

350 NA and 500R supercharged are the logical next steps

Hi!

Thanks :) I presume Merc need to discontinue Verado in some few years time due its 2 star CARB. The new V8 is 3 star CARB.

I agree but let's say the verado gets discontinued do you think people will be happy with only 350hp?? My guess is it will perform as good as the 400r verado but its marketing and ego, 400 just sounds soo much better lol! Funny cause I heard that marketing is pretty much what made the 400r take off sorta unexpectedly. It's not drastically different than a 350verado and it doesn't even make the full 400hp....but most people wont know any of that.

Question is how do you replace the verado 400R and even harder without the price tag of the 450r? But hey people are buying them so maybe price doesn't matter anymore.....
