New Skater V Bottom
Today in its initial test at Lake X, the new Skater V bottom posted 105 when it ran out of prop.
Estimates are now at 110+ (515 x 2 motors) Official Douglas Marine pics can be found at the photo link. |
Very Sharp! ..and damned if it doesn't look like a Skater!! ;) :D
Look Out Reggie...there's a new Big Dawg in town!! |
"Official Douglas Marine pics can be found at the photo link."

Douggie |
Is there a pleasure version?
|
That is WWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY cool.
And that's all I have to say about that. |
Yes pleasure version is available. Call Chris at Skater, tel number is in OSO links section.
OSO |
Sweet looking ride w/ good speed! Kinda looks like a cross between a Fountain and a 39' Extreme. Just my .02.
Ricochet. |
What APBA class would it run in: Super V Lite?
If so, isn't it about 5-10 MPH faster than the current class leader, Bill McComb's Pier 45? |
Skater building a V hull............
This will raise the bar for the other builders !! |
Hummmmmmmm Number 13....I guess Pat Patel will be in the boat in Key West. Might have to get me a ride........hehehe
|
...
|
Yes it is true!!!!
This is the New Skater V Bottom owned and throttled by Pat Patel and driven by Paul Whittier. This new Team and Boat will be racing this year in the 2002 APBA World Championships November 18-24 in Key West, Florida. |
Catmando,
Yes, that was the Baja & Skater joint project. Baja pulled out, and Skater continued with it alone. |
I know im going to get flamed for this,
Hmmm...kinda looks familiar.
|
The folks at Skater are very humbled and flattered they could introduce their new Quad Step Vee Bottom to the industry, only to see it being accepted so well.
All of us at Skater would like to say Thank You! Version will include: Race: Super V & Super V Lite Race/Pleasure: Low Profile Sit Down w/ Quarter Canopies Pleasure: Stand Up w/ Cabin Power Opts: 2x500 to 2x1450 Est. Speeds: 100 to 160 Size: 39’ length x 9’ wide |
I guess a mass production company will have to pay a little more money to the r and d department. It also seems it takes a cat builder to build a v bottom that can play. I wonder if he has a tv monitor in their breakrooms HHMMMMM. Looks great , Craig
ps. What is the official length? |
Skatergear,
What are the advantages of "quad steps"? 160mph??? Where do you think it will run out of bottom? |
NICE! I like it!!:D
Buuuut DAMN!!....................... I'll miss seeing it's apparence in Key West. Maybe some day.......... i'll get that ride and if im real lucky teach me to drive.......ooooh huuuummm:( :o :p |
What happened to the collaboration between baja and douglas marine. Seems like baja could use some help on its hulls. If anybody knows the real skinny pass it on.
|
Basic and common sence thinking was the idea behind the Skater 399 5 step system --- when the same bottom technology works so well on their cats, that are now running 190mph plus --- then the same principal will work just as well on a Vee Bottom.
|
To clear up and put an end to the Skater/Baja affiliation --- basicly it just went dead when Baja had a number of top level managment changes. As a result of those changes Baja had no further interest in pursuing the project with Skater and dropped out it, leaving Skater to continue the development of the 399.
|
Looks incredible i hope it performs like the cats.
|
Great info, Awesome boat!!!
Thanks for the heads up skategear. May I ask, if not too much trouble and you are able to divulge, what the respective responsibilities and contributions were of each organization while it was still a joint venture? What was the original premise in heading into this partnership? Thanks in advance. This project had had a great many people very curious from the beginning... |
Baja,
According to Peter at Skater Fest this spring, Baja basically backed out at the beginning and he continued it as a pet project. So for all intents and purposes, it is all Skater. |
Thanks Shane. :)
|
No problemo dude!:D
