I searched for a thread on this already and couldn't find one. Wanted to see what the opinion is of those that may own one and travel with it. Thoughts, likes, dislikes.


I recently have had my boat completely touched up and then re-cleared by in my opinion the best in the business, Visual Imagination. While spending the coin to do this, I want to project that investment. I reached out to Marine Concepts in LOTO to see about a trailer cover that I would use while traveling. We do travel back n forth from my home lake to LOTO during summer and also will probably do longer trips once life returns to normal (Can't come soon enough). Does anyone use one of these covers built by Marine Concepts? If so, does it scratch your boat at all? Is it hard to put on and off? Give me some good and bad. I like the idea of protecting it from rocks and bugs while traveling and also keeping is clean. It seems worth the cost to protect your investment. Thoughts?

Alan at Canvas Connection in Osage Beach made mine and its been awesome. You'll be shocked at his price compared to Marine Concepts, but Marine Concepts does use a different material. Mine is easy on and off.

I have a full travel cover for mine. Outerlimits had it made. I wouldn't haul without one. It takes 15-20 min to cover to boat, but it's more than worth it when you haul home in the rain or snow and the boat stays perfectly clean. Spray the bottom and trailer off and you're done.

I haven't had any scratching issues, the inside is a felt-like material and the cover itself is heavy enough that it doesn't flap around in the wind. As far as the on/off goes, it can be a huge pain in the ass if you make it so. It took me a couple times to learn how to efficiently get it on and off and the first time took me way too long. I learned that rolling it up from the back and folding the cover up on the bow to put it in the storage bag was the way to go. Never let the cover touch the ground and you won't have to worry about getting dirt on the inside and scratching the boat.

Any cost or inconvenience with taking it on and off is easily worth it when you know you can haul anywhere and know the boat is protected.

I have a full travel cover for my 39 Cigarette. A local company called Taylor Custom Canvas made it. The most important thing is that it must fit like a glove and be tight enough that it will not flap or move at all while going down the road. Like mentioned above, mine is lined in a soft, felt type of material as well. My cover is two pieces that join together where the top deck and cockpit meet. This makes it much easier to fold up and carry when not on the boat. It uses the same fasteners as the cockpit cover, uses straps under the hull and at the transom to pull everything tight and the part that wraps around the hull under the bow has a zipper down the keel. This is there so that the cover can go around the bow stop on the trailer.


This is the fifth boat that I have had a full cover for and Taylor did them all. The covers are not cheap, but when you consider what you are protecting they are well worth the money. It is also very nice to be able to travel somewhere, through any weather, and arrive with the boat still spotless. No road grime, stone chips or bug splats!
