Need tips on floor dollys
 

Hey guys! I have those 2 dollys with 4 x 360 degrees spinning 4-5 inches steel wheels each i used to support my project on the floor. I can swing lets say the back of the boat with one arm from side to side no problem. But if i want to move it forward or backward even with 2-4 people it is not moving, needing my fork lift. I have 4 wheels dolly under the 2400 lbs race car and i can move it easily by myself anyway i want! What is the difference? Is it because the wheels are all 360 degrees? Is it because they are too small? If so why am i able to swing side to side easily? Here is a picture for you to see the dollys. What is everyone using in boat shop production or repair facilities?

they are actually 6 inches casters i measured them at lunch... should'nt be too small right?

i am confused looking at these and mines are not much different cant see why they are tough to change direction

maybe because my dollies are too long... wheels are too much apart makes it harder to change direction... might have to think about that... :)

About 5000 lb and 26 ft long is as big as I've had on them. Without the engine and drive it is easier though.

Now for the dollys, I've had a lot of experience moving stuff around my warehouse and tight fits as I do winter storage for cars and boats.
I find that if the wheels are good for side to side but you are having trouble changing directions it is a matter of technique / momentum
If the boat comes to dead stop and then you try to change direction it is almost impossible.
You need to try changing direction before needed, ever so gradually until you are aligned in direction you want to go.
Sometimes it takes a couple of back n forth but it never failed me
kinda like squeezing the 350 in between 2 parked cars and when you get out there's only 3 inches in back and 6 in front and all the bystanders are wondering how the heck you did that
