If memory serves me, mesh gate was best. I assume the turbulence reduces drag.
Hard tonneau and gate up were about the same
All not towing, no idea how that would affect the turbulence

I found goosenecks to be nicer when pulling heavy. I’ve never pulled a boat on a gooseneck but have pulled a fully loaded flat deck with big squares of hay. You can turn sharper and the truck does feel more “planted”. This was with a srw f350, forget the actual weight but it was immense.

I thought you would like that.... A little humor goes along way these days. I am glad someone picked up on it! However, the security factor of having stuff in the box is still why I prefer the Bumper pull.

I have an extra fuel tank in the bed , gives me a 1300-1370mile range . and we keep a bunch of stuff in the bed . Id hate to lose that but I hear the gooseneck tows better.
I wonder if it bounces way less than a bumper pull over bumps, sometimes the kids go airborne if I hit a highway bump
