Getting parts from Arneson has already been noted as non-existent (Twindisc not withstanding).. being north of the border complicates Arneson parts if needed getting serviced ASAP whereas Merc has parts in 2 locations in Canada and within 7 from H.O - especially if you are dealing with 8-12 weeks of summer boating.
Helluva conversion but nothing wrong with 6's on the back of that hull and power

Just to clarify the Arneson questions and statements with Riks current bad press aside
First off the word Arneson is misused so much it would be no different than hypothetically saying "why get rid of those Mercury drives" and the boat happens to have bravo xr drives behind 1000hp engines. Obviously mercury makes an xr and a #6 etc so to just blanket statement every drive as mercury is not fair.
there are many different versions of Arneson drives also depending the application. This Skater had ASD7 which are a beefed up asd6 on an extension box. The asd6 was rated for 600ft/lb and the asd7 is about 800. So in my opinion these drives were not right for the application to start with. Yes they still performed pretty good overall but this boat had 1000hp.
ASD7 retail at about 24k rated for 800ft/lb
ASD8 retail for 45k+ depending on options rated for 1600-2000ft/lb
Performance yachts use ASD10,12,14 etc. Big ****! Lol

For the record, I'd take 6's over anything else all day.
