Best motor oil?
I have a procharged 454 and currently running valvoline vR1 20w50. I found some older post but wanting to see what everyone else recommends
|
I just don't think you can go wrong with that oil.

Phosphorus : 1200ppm Zinc: 1300ppm 5 quarts of full synthetic for $23 .. no brainer |
I was recommended Rotella 15w-40...
|
I use 50WMobil 1 readily available at Walmart for about 25 bucks for 5 quarts.....
|
Amazon sells a store brand 20w50 that gets good reviews and test results and I have switched to that from the Valvoline 20w50 that you mention. I honestly don't think you can go wrong with any of the oils mentioned in this thread or any good oil in that weight range. They are all good oils and that's why so many people swear by a particular oil, because no one has problems with them! But, yes, the VR1 20w50 is a good choice.

i use a lot of rotella 15-40 but in big marine supercharged engines the best is mobile one V twin 20-50 its suposed to have a special additive package so the rollers don,t skid on the cam

Loaded with ZDDP for added protection, MR50 offers an application specific product designed for this demanding performance environment. Driven's certified lubrication engineers have worked with marine engine builders to develop a first-in-class synthetic product that delivers performance and value. Excellent protection for high performance marine engines. Ideal for flat tappet cams, big blocks and blown marine engines. MR50 contains rust inhibitors for winter storage and defense against ethanol blended fuel. Viscosity typical of 15W-50. |
Hands down Driven but its not the one above ^^^^
If anyone has Driven questions I have been dealing with Driven for a very very long time. Back when it was Joe Gibbs days to current. They spent actually a million bucks to test and come up with the formula for the 2 Nascar teams way back and a lot help from Lubrizol and Chevron. A buddy of mine owns an oil analysis business and I have ran a lot of oils thru him. |
As mentioned 20w-50vr1 or mobil 1. 15w-50.(M1 very cheap at wally world. )Which ever makes you feel better. Slight nod to vr-1 with flat tappets.
