Bottom stain removal

What's everyone using? I've always used Power one. What's the latest and greatest?

SABER28 05-23-2020 07:33 PM

the works tub and shower cleaner. cheap and you can get it at the grocery store.

Then buff and wax the bottom to seal the pores of the gel

Biokleen’s fiberglass and rv cleaner. I use it on a boat that is kept in a seasonal slip, that has no bottom paint. 1-2 applications and its done, looks like new

PowerOne is still the best bang for the buck . . . .been using this stuff for years works best on a dry surface. i would use boat for the weekend and shoot it on monday with a spray bottle then hose it off with some soapy water after it does its thing. Watch it on aluminum trailers though its acidic for those not familiar with it

FOY - Power One #1

Muratic Acid in pump garden sprayer. Spray on and then hose off after 30 seconds.
It does not play well aluminum either and the fumes suck.

Ringo gel is great as well.. but as stated above any of them leave the gel porous and the stains will come back faster.

i think the works uses phosphoric acid which is a little easier on aluminum. doesnt seem to bother my manning aluminum trailer, but a good whiff will still burn your lungs.

i ceramic coated one side of my boat last year (three coats). seemed to help allot vs the uncoated side.

Drock78 05-26-2020 08:18 PM

I'm thinking about having the bottom painted black then I don't have to worry about it. Lol

Joe 05-28-2020 02:02 PM

Ospho.... a bit more gentle than muratic acid and works just as well. You can use it on the ITS as well, just don't leave it on there. Spray on, wipe and spray off.

Bottom

The best way is to Yard Arm the boat off it's trailer, acid treat the bottom and polish and wax the bottom.

Steve, How long will that prevent in the Grand River? Month? Summer?

I use Sea Safe hull cleaner works great and doesn't hurt the trailer like On&Off and other acids etc....a good waxing helps tremendously but I never been able to prevent scum for more than a few weeks. But it makes it wipe right off if you hit it immediately while its still wet after you pull it out. On a smaller boat you can get away with jumping in the water and rubbing it off. Obviously not gonna happen on a big boat.
Also depends on the water quality. 1 day in the CT River and my boat is already yellow LOL. 2 days in my lake usually doenst leave any scum tho.

seafordguy 05-29-2020 07:42 PM

slimy grimy always seemed a lot less hard on the gel to me.....

Every time I take it out I spray scum line with Starbrite Black Streak Remover and wipe down with a towel(while it's still wet from being in the water).
For the yellow stain;
Step 1-Starbrite Black Streak Remover, car wash brush and water(sides)
Step 2-Starbrite Hull Cleaner, car wash brush and water(sides)
Step 3-Boat Wash Gel, car wash brush and water(deck)
This has never done anything to my aluminum Myco but I keep it plenty wet during the cleaning.
I use this for the drive area

Works good on rims too

Should last the summer,

alindquist 06-01-2020 03:25 PM

Anyone find something that won't mess up bottom paint? I've used On Off and Slimmy Grimmy and both left white streaks on my bottom paint.

Nykamp 06-06-2020 06:24 AM

Let me know if you want your bottom done, i have a few openings coming up , you should still have my cell number.

Nothing personel 353 06-06-2020 07:23 AM
