Don Johnson
I wanted to to start this as a crazy DJ fan not to mention the fact that most of us are here because of him.
are there any stories to share good or bad. who has met him? can Anyone list the boats he had or owned? We know wellcraft gave him a 38KV on the house for the priceless promotion but obviously didn’t keep it (once he went through the fame and power game and realised materials doesn’t make you happy. Same as testarossa !?) |
My friend was a repeating extra on Nash Bridges when they were filming in San Francisco. My buddy thought it would be a good idea to pull him aside and give him his ideas on how to improve the scene. He just glared at my buddy while drawing hard on a cigarette with a few uh huhs. My buddy was never asked back but I side with Don on this one. :)

I thought this thread was asking where OSO member Don Johnson was ? He always seemed to have cool boats and projects. Anyone know ?
As far as the fight, I think they’d just hang out and do shots. :) |
There just HAS TO BE a potential movie here someday.

It was 1989 in Atlantic City for the Trump Offshore Grand Prix (or whatever it was actually called) - My friends and I were 17/18 and through some connections, got into one of the parties on the Deck at Trump Marina. We were hanging around and trying to soak up the whole situation. We met up with a couple of the safety team, talked some shop because we were EMT's and a few racers joined us (wish I could remember who). Anyway, Chuck Norris comes walking by, someone says hello and next thing you know he is hanging with us for a while. He was super cool, sat down and had a beer with us and really appreciated the safety team & mom and pop race teams. A few minutes later, Donald Trump came through the party with a couple of body guards and went out of his way to come see us (us being Chuck Norris and the safety crew) and genuinely thanked the safety team for all their support. Trump and Chuck Norris were great! Then there was Don Johnson. First off, I was (and still am) a big fan of Miami Vice and it was a huge part of my love for the sport. Anyway, Don came walking through the crowd with two giant bodyguards. Chuck Norris called over to him and said let me introduce you to some new friends of mine. He walked over to our group, looked us up and down like he was shopping for produce or something, turned to Chuck said something I couldn't hear and walked away. Never said hello or even acknowledged us! We all sort of looked at Chuck and he just shrugged and said " Don't mind him, he's always an *******!" That's my Don Johnson, Chuck Norris, Donald Trump story. I think Melanie Griffith was there too but I don't remember seeing her and didn't meet her, lol. |
My offshore boat passion came from the good old days watching Bobby Moore, Kenny Black, Danny Patrona, Mark(h20), Doug Martinez and all the other bad asses racing around lake St Clair. Nothing cooler than a group of classic Magnums and Mirages waking the lake up.

Are you asking about Don Johnson ?
or Don's Johnson ? |
met both Johnson and Norris. Chuck came to the race shop a couple times and we all went to lunch and talked boats. we were racing in marathon once and Chuck came down the dock while I was sitting on the boat. he stopped and asked how the boat was running, etc. after a couple minutes someone walked over and asked if he was Chuck Norris, he said yes, posed for pics talked with them all like they were old buddies. greatest guy you could ever hang around. at the same race Johnson came out of the hotel with body guards and entourage in toe about the same time we were walking by. a kid about 8 or 9 ran up and asked him for an autograph, he looked down and said "I dont have time for that kid" and walked away. and that was one of the nicer things I saw out him in the several times I was around him.

Chuck Norris is a bodyguard for for bodyguard.

Actually I think he started his career as a bodyguard/trainer for Bruce Lee and Bruce convinced him to get into the acting side of the business. Crazy part to me? Chuck Norris is 80, Don Johnson is 70 and Bruce Lee has been dead 47 years but is still relevant in martial arts discussions today! Chuck Norris never sold out like this: |
That video is pitiful and speaks volumes

Chuck usually had a bodyguard with him. one guy who stayed about 7 or 8 feet away and watched the crowd. I think he mostly just made sure no idiot could run up and jump on Chuck trying to prove he was a bad azz. Chuck didnt need a bodyguard but probably some thing done so someone wouldnt blind side him or act stupid. thing with Chuck is he is so easy going you just wanted to hang out and chat.
|
The drug dealers probably did more for boat racing than the celebrities.
|
Sounds like Don is a Johnson.........:lolhit:

I was also at 1989 Trumps Castle event. My friend who was down there with our team was walking down the hall of the hotel, now he was a real threat to Dick Johnson and his entourage he was 5'10" about 135 lbs and for no reason one of the a--hole body guards shoved him right into a wall of the hallway. Apparently Dick Johnson needed the whole hallway what a douchebag

I have the entire five seasons on DVD, came in a boxed set. Would have loved it even more on ultra Blu Ray. Boats, babes and music..
|
D.J.; Women, Music & Boats.
Don Johnson would have traded all the fame from the Miami Vice series for being able to have had a music career instead. Throughout his time in the '70s in Hollywood he spent most of it in the music scene, and only struggled with acting for paychecks and potential stardom. His true loves have always been women, music, boats, and in that order.
This scene with Don & Ritchie Powers is classic. Two telling interviews from 1986; by Barbara Walters on TV and one by Rolling Stone Magazine. Rolling Stone Magazine article: https://www.rollingstone.com/tv/tv-n...ll-star-37467/ |
Sly, Kurt Russel and Don Johnson get some challenges.
In 1988 the late gentleman Tom Gentry gives D.J. a shot at the Key West World Offshore Championships in the famous Team Scarab 46, Gentry Turbo Eagle. Wellcraft leased the Gentry Turbo Eagle from Tom Gentry and put Don Johnson, Bill Sirois and Gus Anastasi onboard as crew. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...e86a5c11f6.jpg |
I hope he does not want to bring back the mullet - pure white zoot suits and leather penny lofer shoes with no socks. He was a horrible actor and the only reason he made it was of women by the groves were the draw. Ill give him credit there thou. It was cool he was into boats but that was kind of thing back then anyways. Even heshe Bruce Jenner raced boats back then.

When I was 18 or so, and thought I was a bad ass...., I was dating a hotty that worked at our local theater.
Chuck Norris was in town to promote his new movie. My girl was hot for him and was working when Chuck was there. I told her to tell him I could kick his ass. I even tried to go there but had to work. I thought he was just an actor and had no clue he was 4 time world champion kick boxer 😆 Lucky for me, he was way smarter than me 😉

When it comes to celebrities and their off screen accomplishments, I always am amazed with Vinnie Barbarino piloting a jumbo jet:

After NAFTA, the markets were flooded with so much cheap labor Mexican produce that the $$ losses were prohibitive even for cleaning money. The tomato industry is all but dead and gone today. |

Don't know much about DJ other than the fact that his daughter is pretty hot and that he raced with one of the nicest guys to ever get in a boat, Richie Powers.
|
I couldn't care less about Don Johnson. I'm here because of the boat. What was it's name?
