HIN comes back to
FLORIDA HOMEMADE BOATS, MIC FOR STATE ISSUED HINS. Build in 1977

When the third digit of a HIN is a "Z," this indicates that the HIN has been state-issued or "re-tagged." In these cases, the "Z" will be preceded by the issuing state's abbreviation (e.g. "NYZ" or "FLZ"). There are a few ways this can happen. It could have been a homemade boat and its builder requested that a HIN be issued by the state; this is completely legal and correct. Such a HIN may also indicate that the vessel had been sold as "salvage" and part or most of it was refurbished and presented as a "home built" or "custom made" boat. It may not look home made, but this too is legal within certain guidelines. The important thing is that you are advised of this before you buy the vessel so you can ask any questions you may have about its history and how it came to be re-tagged.

Thats some good information. I wasn’t aware of that HIN.

So does the A2 stand for build date of January 1972?

This may be the La Tortuga ll race boat , built by Sonny Miller and Bob Saccenti. 44 MSV mold blocked down to 38'. Built around 1972-73. That would explain the lack of original HIN. Probably converted to pleasure boat , titled and sold in 1977.

Lots of MSV 38 derived boats made. Joel Halpern alone got 10 hulls according to Miller. Sure looks like a colorful project.

That's definitely a MSV deck on this one. I think most of the others ( Halperns) used his own deck. My 92 year old mom still has her LaTortuga Racing jackets Sonny Miller had made for the whole crew!

What would be a value once a project like that was finished? In terms of re sale value?

About 80% of what you’ll be able to sell the engines, drives and trailer for separately. IMO the hull is worth zero or less than zero.
