It’s an 88 on the title and says it’s a cigarette. 28’ don’t know anything else. The hin numbers don’t make any sense what so ever |
small bock Cig 28 ? post the HIN
|
What are the first letters of the HIN?
It does have the lines of a 28SS but there are a few differences....the "splash rail" just under the rub rail sticks out farther on the 28SS then on this boat and its not a "thick" as this one. And the rear deck on the 28SS doesn't go all the way out to the edge. This one could be newer/updated as i'm only familiar with the older ones (late 70's) This could be a splash of the cig done by someone else and someone decided to put a cig logo on it.... here are a few pics of my friends cig during/after resto https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...1ec090b7f2.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...b921b47e2b.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...84ec4017d8.jpg |

The HIN starting with NJZ is for a state issued number from New Jerzey.....could have been a home made boat, or a police/drug seizure etc.....either way unless someone knows the story behind it i don't know if you'll ever get the full story on it. :(
|
NJZ is a “New Jersey home made boat”
|
I was worried about that. I didn’t realize someone could make a boat like this homemade.
|
I was
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...c1f35915df.jpg worried when I saw the hin and it looked like this |
I highly doubt that was a true home made boat unless someone had a friend that was very good at glass work and had access to some molds. This was more likely a boat that was probably recovered by the cops after being stolen and the HIN was removed and New Jerzey issued a generic HIN number to sell it at auction at some point.
|
It has decient lines and if the hull is solid and the price is right for you then i say run it! Just be aware when it comes time to sell it may get lots of questions...
|
I have to repower it. Not sure what to use. I would like fuel injected. I’m worried about dumping too much money in now that it’s not legit. Funny because I saw another post of 1988 28 cigarette on here that looked identical and people where trying to figure out what it was. Maybe was the same boat.

on these older boats wasn't there a HIN in another area of the boat ? under dash , under the rub rail ?

HIN "Secret location for the # was under the rubrail, 6' aft of the bow. This was in another thread and was originally posted by brownie who used to work for cig back in the day. in same post someone said that they also had a hin stamped behind one of the tabs. might be worth checking to see if you could find anything there, but doesnt seem to promising. here is the link to the thread that I found https://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/...uestion-2.html |
looks pantera'ish (to me) with an identity crisis with Cigarette stickers?
|
Hin
Looked under the right trim tab for an HIN and found nothing
