Cutting fiberglass

Hi All,

Looking for a little help for my son. He is a mechanical engineer for a company that designs and manufactures power supplies. They are looking for the best machine for cutting fiberglass. They will be cutting gpo (glastic), max 1/4" thick, sheet size is 48" x 96". Any suggestions for best equipment to handle this type of job?

Thanks in advance.

Polyester sheet laminate? I would use a water jet cutter for precise cuts and if large manufacturing quantities. If just cutting a few pieces for work a carbide skill saw.

This would be for large quantities. So water jet is the best way? Any idea on brand and model that would work best?

I've cut up a few jet skis and the easiest thing I've found was a circular saw with carbide teeth..

Thanks, but this is more for an industrial job cutting large quantity of fiberglass sheets. Just trying to get my son a leg up with his boss. I figured someone here would know the best manufacturer of industrial water jets.

We have two large Omax machines in our shop that are used two shifts a day and just bought another. We have had good luck with them on ship building work. Omax would be a good company to reach out to.

Thanks! Hopefully this scores my son some brownie points with the owner!

When I saw the title to this thread "Cutting Fiberglass" I automatically said to myself "SUCKS". Because every time I've done it I get little invisible splinters all over. So my opinion is that "Cutting Fiberglass Sucks".
