How is the boating in the Finger Lakes, my wife wanted to take our boat out to Lake Cayuga the end of August when we bring our daughter back to college and I didn't know if they had a lot of places to go on the lake. I saw you can get over to Seneca Lake, but it looked like a long no wake area.

Boating on the Finger Lakes in upstate New York is great, but every one of the Finger Lakes has a very different personality. The bigger lakes - Cayuga and Seneca - are long, fairly wide and deep. That means they can stay pretty cold even in mid-summer. This is especially true for Seneca. Cayuga isn't nearly as deep and in fact is very shallow at the north end. Personally, I'd take Seneca over Cayuga for high performance boating - especially if your boat is bigger. As far as I know, there are no speed limits on these two lakes. The "medium" size Finger Lake is Canandaigua Lake. It's fairly crowded - especially on weekends - and especially at the north end. The south end is a completely different animal and quite nice and quiet. Keuka is a bit smaller and very beautiful. There is a 45 MPH speed limit on these two lakes and all of the smaller Finger Lakes. Hope that helps.
