Default child flotation devices

We have some friends that are boaters but not members of oso that have a baby that will be right at 8 months old when they start boatin next season. I know there were some posts earlier on kids and boating. But don't recall any flotation devices being used. What have you all used for infants? Funhome might be interested as well?

BTW the smallest we found so far is rated for and infant to 30lbs and seems kinda large for my 4 yr old that is right at 25lbs.. Be way large for a 8month old

Thanks for the help

Chris

Please don't take the KIDS out with a Vest. As I'm sure you won't.
Sorry I can't give you exact places to shop. But I can tell you what you need to look for.
In no order.
1] high impact rate. example 50mph. should be on the inside tag.
2] a Skid collar a MUST!!!!!!!!!!!!
3]a grab handle attached to just behind the skid collar, so god forbid the child falls in the water.
you have something to extract them out with.

Mustangs are the best I've seen for kids. Both of my kids use them and my 7 year old is now in the largest "kid" model they make. Since we do sometimes boat at night I have water activated strobes on them as well. Especially when my son goes out fishing with me this time of year, if he went over in the 42 degree water I wouldn't have much time to find him in the dark. The strobe give me piece of mind.

My daughter (13months) has a Stearns "Heads-Up" PFD. It has the big collar and the grab handle on the back. When I first put it on her at 7 months old, she looked like a PFD with feet. Tested it out in the pool though, and it works great. Keeps her head above the water, and it won't come off when I pick it up by the handle.
Probably not rated for speed, but that's not an issue yet.

We also have a Stearns infant that is like an itty bitty Offshore Jacket. Real nice flotation, collar and a handle. If your friends are interested I can probably dig it out and send it, my youngest is now 8 so they have all outgrown it Let me know, be nice to see it protect another little future powerboater.
