Superboat if you can find one. The one I owned went upper 70's w/525efi. They win a LOT of races too, in rough or flat water.

What’s the consensus on 29’ formula?

Is it twin small blocks or single big block? As others have pointed out some other boats, most rare, the velocity 280/290 will be faster with a single big block, probably cheaper than the formula and will have more freeboard than any of the other boats recommended. And , if you can find a superboat Y2K, it will be the best boat of all.

They are all twin smallblocks except for one that was built as a race boat. Won't get close to 80. Prob mid 60's.

I have a potential lead on a 29 Kryptonite. They look like they have low freeboard. Haven’t seen in person yet. I’m hoping it’s not just a bigger version of what I had. It’s plenty fast, but does it handle rough water. Picture a 2-3’ day and mix in some 40-60’boat wakes.

Email me and I will send you some pictures of a 29' with twin 300s that maybe available. [email protected]

I like the 29 Fountain Fever. It has a shocking amount of room in the cockpit for a Fountain. Should run 70-75mph w/ single 500EFI or 525EFI. They are all equipped w/ full hydraulic steering and 280 K-plane Tabs to help in the rough. You should be able pick up a nice one for under 50K.

Keep you mind open for anything in the 26-29 single engine or 31-35ft twin outboard range if you want outboards. A single 29 fountain would be a good fit for you. You should add a 28 Saber to your list. I think Laveycraft and Howard make decent boats in the 26-29 range. Many big single engine 28ft boats have the problem of stock power not enough power or stock drives not enough for bigger power. There are some neat twin outboard sport boats that come up in your range. I think that 31 Cigarette Bullet that was converted to outboards is still for sale close to your price range. Probably 8 months ago saw a nice 32 Hustler twin outboard verados in your price range.

29 Kryptonite is a sit down boat.

Griff is correct, all Kryptonite's are sit down boats. Setup is key however. I have a 27 Kryptonite (29 minus the swim platform) I can say the boat can defiantly handle the rough, 99% of my boating is all out in the Long Island Sound and up towards MA. I do have a great set of seats that defiantly help when riding in the rough, not sure of the setup in the one you are looking at. These were modeled after an Activator.
