Ocean boating
Hey guys, first post here but I’ve been lurking this forum for quite some time. I have 14 years of experience, 9 of those years were with my Skater 24. I go boating almost exclusively on Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. Will be starting a new job next month and moving down to Miami. I have never driven a boat in ocean before. How does it compare boating in the great lakes? Will my 24 be sufficient for the waters around Miami or should I consider selling it and getting something bigger?

From what I've read on here the great lakes have much bigger waves than the Atlantic ocean. You will be fine......

Watch weather reports ...stay away from north winds and you will be fine. Stay safe and enjoy.

Check out Keys Island Runners on tard book, a lot of small single outboard powered speedboats south of miami running

During storms and especially the windy/spring season it can get rough. But, its not unusual to go out on a Saturday at 10AM and its only 1-2 feet. You can always run the inside on the intercoastal too.

Meade! classic I knew that was coming....lmao

If you can handle Lake Erie then you have no worries!

like that post Indy....10 footers if I recall

The 24 isn't the biggest boat in the pack and will not handle like a bigger cat or V so the weather will tell you when you are NOT going out.... if you go back a few years, there was some good racing among the 24's skaters on the ocean..... and they went out good or bad unless the races were called.
Stay safe and enjoy the 24 - great boat! Which 24 do you have (Name? and paint) |
