UGH !! That would make you sick to your stomach. At least no one was hurt.

So who pays for the boat loss, the boaters insurance or is the facility responsible to pay for all the losses in that storage?

Your insurance pays for the damages. That's why majority of marinas need proof of insurance when you sign slip/storage contract.

Then the mess begins.......... I knew a guy that had a boat crushed when a dry stack collapsed in a hurricane. The insurance companies will want to "value" the boat and due to the damage they have no idea if you have a mint 20 yr old boat or a trashed 20 year old boat that needs everything. Hurricane will be an "act of god" that they likely can't sue the marina for but I'd bet for fire, the marina insurance will get sued by the insurance companies for some of the damages due to "old wiring, lack of fire control devices" or whatever they can call on as the cause of the fire.

There will be people thrilled their boat was in that building! Get a check and no more boat storage costs.............

I am always amazed what people will pay storage on. Where I store my boat trailer for $70 a month there is a little 17-19 foot run a bout. Filled with water since the cover is rotted, tires flat, pretty much I would charge more than $70 to take it to the junk yard. Been there for 3 years at least, that is how long I have had my spot next to it.

Ya that sounds more like it. But I believe they pay you on "agreed value". It would make sense for the boat insurance to sue or settle with that boat storage.

Boat storage here (Miami FL) is crazy expensive... cheapest you'll find is $9 a foot and that is at a very sketchy place. If it's at a marina $25 a foot for dry storage..

In the back of my warehouse they rent parking spaces for $110 a month plus tax. Among the "highlights" there was a Vega on a trailer, been there 25+ years, rotting in the sun, a double trailer with 4 rotted Sea Doos and a "mini-Winni RV" with tags that expired in 2007. The owner of the Vega realized that after blowing 30K+ in storage fees the rusty Vega will never hit the road, they sent the whole package to the scrap yard. The tongue rotted off the sea doo double trailer so that is completely gone, the seats on the sea doos are now just exposed foam/no vinyl at all. The Mini Winni has a serious roof separation/leak going on so that one is likely a scrap yard candidate.

Yeah, storage is usually a huge waste of good money............. There are likely a dozen spots being used by stuff that should be thrown away.

This fire burned long and hot and per fire expert it's doubtful a cause will be determined.

It's sad when it could have been avoided. Bosch makes a camera that can detect smoke and fire even when it's very small, it also doubles as a security camera. I have worked with companies that are at extreme risk for fire with self combusting products and we have saved them millions of dollars by detecting fires when they are still easily extinguishable.

We pay for it eventually, every claim that is made increases policies a crossed the board for boaters.

I got divorced, and in the middle of it all, we had an agreed division of household goods, etc., so I moved my part to a storage facility, thinking I'd be buying a new house in a couple of months. 2-1/2 years of divorce proceeding later, and ending up dead arse broke, I continued to keep that furniture and stuff in storage (unseen) for another 8 or 9 years. I decided to go over to get some of it, and quickly realized I paid thousands of dollars in storage for now decades old, broken down and dirty, worthless crap! I ended up having to pay someone to come in and haul it off! Needless to say, I've not lived that screwup down yet, and that was 20 years ago!!! LOL!

Hate to hear about such a loss of boats. Fire is a total destroyer!
