Boat Trailers
I'm researching trailers at the moment. Any recommendations?
Fresh water, so I want a fancy painted steel trailer, electric jack, electric brakes (at least something that I can back up a hill without needing a Kenworth on both ends to fight the surge brakes), 8 lug axles, clear coat if possible, etc. No drive guard or such, but tool box if they offer one. To trailer a 38'er. What manufacturer would you suggest? What kind of price should I be looking at? (bottom line, haggled the salesman naked price) Can I buy direct, or is there a dealer network? How about customer service, reliability stories? ps....I called Myco today, never heard back and they told me I'd hear in an hour. I just want to know if they sell direct or I have to talk to a dealer. Sheesh. psII...I own a Vanguard now, and it's a nice trailer, but the stupid "hub caps" that cover the axle/bearing buddy ends keep fligging off. And they're a B**ch to get on when you replace them. Not a fan. |
I'm sold on Myco.
This is my second one and I have never used a finer trailer. Personally I like the unpainted look, no maintanence, no chips, etc. But that is just me. The painted ones really do look great. Myco, Extreme and Eagle are probably the best in that order. Good luck |
If you want trick...go with Extreme Trailers out of California. But I have to agree with Doc; very little maintenance and no chips to worry about. Next trailer I get will be a MYCO or similar.

I have had great luck with my Eagle,,, a little pricey but worth it to me.

Manning
32 Fever,
I just ordered a Manning Marine trailer http://www.manningmarine.com from Mark (Boatme) He is in Michigan close to you. I also checked with Myco and Eagle. Both nice trailers but quite a bit more expensive. The manning was ~9K depending on options the Eagle was about $11K and Myco $13K. These prices were with spare, custom paint, alloy wheels and triple axle brakes (disk surge w/ reverse solonoid) Manning also offers to laser cut and backlight your boat manufacturers logo in the side of the trailer. Myco is the ticket. I have owned two painted ones and one aluminum one. These trailers are built extremely well, they will build it with the options that you want and they tow well on the road. We put a lot of miles on trailers and we have never had a problem with Myco. Give them a shot and you will not be disappointed. Oh yea....they look great too!!

I have called Myco twice in the last couple of months with no response. They will not return my calls. I would have a VERY tough time spending money with someone that won't take the time to talk to me.

MYCO is the way to go! Call Bill Tweedi at Myco, he always returns my calls promptly. I recommend the aluminum triple axle, hydraulic over electric disc brakes, 5 spoke aluminum wheels, etc.
I am on my second Myco, I will never buy anything else! |
Manning Marine builds the best trailer by far!!!!!! I have had Myco,Eagle,C-Hawk,South Florida....etc.The trailer is way over built and way under priced.I am a boat dealer and go thru some trailers. They cost about 1500-2000 less than a myco for a large trailer( to fit a 35-45ft boat)And have more options.Such as electric brakes on all 3 axels, drive guard,17in wheels and tires. The list goes on!!I cannot say enough good things about them!!

I agree manning builds a great trailer. I DEFINATELY THINK THEY ARE BETTER THAN EAGLE(MY LAST TRAILER), ESPECIALLY FOR THE PRICE.

Go with Aluminum. You live in Michigan so the road salt and drastic temp changes are tough on painted steel. Five years from now the trailer will need no upkeep for cosmetics.

If you want to shoot money at a trailer, fine.
But I bought my aluminum triple axle trailer from Owens & Sons for $3500. 33' 11,000#GVWR. Brakes on 2 axles (free-backing surge brakes with salt flush kits - I love 'em). Big jack (3000#). Loads/unloads like a dream ( I launch/load by myself). Pulls like a dream. Fits boat like a dream. Turned them loose with the order on a Monday. Had it ready on Thursday. St.Pete, FL Mike |

He said he does check the sales email, too. (Told him I think of too many questions at11:30-12:00 at night and I doubt he wants me to call him.) LOL! Actually, it sounds like the Myco will be less money than the Eagle quote I got. |
My manning for a 38' PQ, custom fit to my boat. I had them raise the bunks so forks would fit, split the bunks so I could sling it, they put a diamond plate step on winch stand to access bow, 16.5 aluminum wheels w/ spare, custom painted any color w/ stripe, tri-axle w/ brakes on 2 axles. They will do anything you want. They even delivered it to me. All this for just $5550!

Loadmaster steel trailers out of Ohio are nice,....now I have a Aluminum Loadmaster out of Florida that I haul my 40' Excalibur on....I can, and have loaded it by myself....no problems...the aluminum trailers may not be as pretty as a painted one but there is no maintenence on paint from stone chips and rust...plus they weigh a lot less...my .02....Fred

I just bought an aluminum MYCO for our Top Gun and I am really happy with the quality. The trailer has electric over hydraulic disc's and tows and stops very nicely. The boat launches and loads very nice as well. I have also looked at several painted MYCO's that have seen salt several times and that are a few years old, and they looked very good with no visible rust.
I have also owned two Extremes. They make a very nice trailer as well, but they are more custom and IMO will require more care to keep it looking good. My Extreme had alot of polished billet on it which looked *****en, but you also had to spend alot of time polishing the trailer. |
I can't believe that no one has mentioned Heritage trailers!
I have a painted steel tandum axle Heritage under my Baja, and love it. Heritage is out of Ohio and delivers nationwide. Custom painted and welded to match your specs. Tows like a dream, too. They had the dimensions for my hull already and delivered the trailer to my local dealer. Custom painted any color you want with loads of options on brakes and winches. I don't have alot of history with other brands, but they have me sold. |
32Fever,
Soooooooooooooo!......buying a tailer to accomodate a 38 footer eh? (you're probably rolling your eyes right now) Holding out on us local folks huh? You must be buying some pretty bad machine. Care to let us in on what you're up to? It's hard for a person to keep anything confidential anymore these days isn't it? You're probably kicking yourself right now. You did it to me a few weeks ago so now the boom-a-rang is coming back to you. :D ;) |

Seriously Mark, I'm probably going to hang on to what I have right now.....and you're probably saying to yourself; "oh sure"
I'm glad to even have the boat I have now. It looks good, sounds good, and runs good-----not the fastest and not trying to be---but she's a runner.....touch those throttles and she'll buck for ya! :) |

WHAT!!!!!!!!!!11 I was just recieved a quote for a steel Manning triple axle, aluminum rims, disc brakes for $6,700. And for a 32' boat. None of the extras mentioned above. You mean to say that disc brakes added over $1100 for a shorter trailer? What gives? A friend just bought one 6 months ago for his 34' PQ,..... $5500. What other brand trailer should I consider? |
I have a MYCO for sale in the classifieds. It is built for a 37 foot Outerlimits but can easily be modified. $4500 bucks takes it.

I’m pricing out trailers for a 38’ too. I’ve had Heritage and Eagle trailers and have no complaints about either. Manning is the only one I found that will deal direct with you. Maybe if we gang up on them they will cut us a deal.:D I thought you were looking at a AT awhile ago. jmackin $5550 sound like the 50% down required for them to start building a trailer for a 38' boat. If not, you got a hell of a deal. |
