Cockpit cover material ?? Please help
 

Going to have a new cockpit cover made for our Skater. We are moving to LOTO full-time this year & hope to take our boat to Florida for the winter. We have a sunbrella cockpit cover now thats falling apart. Boat is stored indoors or under a canopy on a hoist. What do you recommend for keeping rain out when it needs covered during day trips to various locations?? Thanks for any help

When it comes to strength / durabililty and waterproof characteristics I've been really impressed (and happy) with stamoid .
It is not in any way a breathable material though so if that's important to you like it was to me just put a few vents in it with clamshell covers.

I always liked sunbrella on a cockpit cover just because it’s lighter and easier to put on and off and it’s usually not going to be on it long term. Winter full mooring covers I’ve gone with top gun. Sucks to put on and off but also not putting one on in the water or on a lift.

This is exactly my thoughts on both products. Sunbrella on my cockpit covers, modern synthetic like top gun on my full storage cover.

Yep, can't stand Kommiefornia anymore. I grew up in the middle of 650 acres in western Pennsylvania and its time to slow down & enjoy life.

Will the sunbrella do a good enough job holding rain out for the times you are stuck at a dock waiting out the passing summer storm?

I prefer sunbrella over all other fabrics. It’s breathable, light, durable, and doesn’t fade in the sun. The main downside to sunbrella is it isn’t as waterproof. It does require 303 treatments.

we had top gun on a previous boat and while it’s light and super waterproof...it faded and was brittle. Making it not very durable.
