KY car title question
KY requires titles to be notarized . In Illinois we don`t notarize titles . Does the notary stamp need to be on the title (there really isn`t a spot for it ) or just a side letter stating the notary witnessed my signature on the title. I can`t seem to get a clear answer on this .
I sold my truck to a KY resident . |
Have the notary stamp and sign somewhere near your signature.
|
If it is an IL title, you don't need to do anything. There is a spot on KY titles for a notary to sign.
|
Just like verified signatures on mail in ballots, they will just trust that is your signature, nothing to look at here
|
I don’t know if this is still true but as of 5 or so years ago ky notaries don’t have a stamp, it’s just a signature.

The Notary will sign, date, list commission number and date commission expires
Stamp not necessary it just makes it easier for the Notary. Also make sure its done in the correct spot or it can void the title and will need to get another |

Sorry my bad, I should have read your statement better. To transfer an out of state vehicle neew to fill out form TC 96-182
Not sure if its a multi sheet form but can also be found at any KY clerks office https://drive.ky.gov/motor-vehicle-l...e-Titling.aspx https://transportation.ky.gov/Organi...C%2096-182.pdf |
Thanx , that`s going to be the job of the buyer, I`m in illinois
I got it notarized , should be good to go |
Been there done that but the buyer will be contacting you later. I've brought out of sate vehicles into the state a few times and its always the same. The form has to be filled out and signed/notarized, then sheriff will inspect. If form is not present, the sheriff will tell the buyer get the form filled out and come back. It has to be inspected before anything can proceed further.
Only other way is to find a dealer which will do it illegal. Had to do it one time that way because bought a car from my shipmate as he was shipping out. Would have to wait 8 months for return to finish so we got it signed while he was out at sea (wink, wink) |
I see what you`re saying , I`ll get that form notarized also.
Hard to believe any state makes things harder than Illinois. Here you sign the title and off you go , buyer registers the car, no inspections or trips to notary. |
