There is a lot of carbon involved in the layup of the 27...I bet its not as heavy as some may think. No pad, no steps, Im sure it rides/handles great. 700hp in the low 90s would be perfect for me.

On the speed topic, not to digress too far. You guys are absolutely right. As someone who races a 26 foot Class 6 boat at 70, and a 32 foot Class 4 boat at 85. Those speeds in open cockpit boats are really, really fast. Especially in the ocean. Frankly, too many people expect 100+ out everything these days not at all realizing how fast it is and how dangerous it is. I hate to be a debbie downer...but a LOT of people need a reality check.

In it's robust old skool days & because of its weight the 27 needed twin BB's to move it above 70, manifold exhaust so tight together a wrenchers nightmare, but I loved the redundancy of 2 engines .
but modern power and a lighter hull the re-creation 27 engine bay looks really sharp!.......one thing I don't like on this 27 new deck is the missing side chrome grilles.......those side chrome vent grilles
set it apart from other decks and was its unique signature!

My favorite days boating for close to 20 years were in a 27' Magnum Sport, that boat looks great. I love it.

The later model 27's and 28's weren't as heavy as the early ones. My 1978 28' Maltese weighed in at 5075lbs , factory twin big block/ TRS package. 28's had full inner liner in cabin.

Im hopefully picking up a 27 lancer/mag copy less motor/drive this weekend to spruce up over the summer and stuff my motor and drive into next winter, because 85 in a 22 footer can induce the pucker factor. I will be happy if the bigger hull does 70 with the power. Seeing this new version really gives me some ideas..

Did you get your boat this past weekend? If you have time, share a few pictures.

I do not see low 90's from 700 HP. Maybe low/mid 80's which is still plenty fast for that size boat.

From a marketing and sales perspective, they had to compliment the original and create a "new" product that is genuinely and noticeably different from the originals in in the late 60's and 70's. If it wasn't a big enough jump in design and just left it to performance numbers, the company would have only killed the prospect of new boat sales and drove up the price and demand of the early Magnums... (not a good business plan).

If you were dropping the coin on a new boat and insisted on the chrome vents , I am sure they would gladly accommodate you for a price.

The new 27 is a very, very pretty piece just the same, my compliments to Magnum for what they turned out!
