my friend Jeff says they are now made in china as a hull and deck and shipped to the US to rig. He helps a dealer in costa mesa ship them to the customer. says he just delivered one to key west.

The traditional Panga has a unique history to include Yamaha being involved. We use this type boat along costal Mexico to explore and to get to snorkeling sites. The locals run them in some big water to get to isolated coastal communities. The original hulls were displacement and run comfortably in a chop, more recent hull for the USA market are a planning design.

Panga’s are kinda the universal work skiff around much of the world.
This pic is from 1998, loading gear on panga skiffs for a weeklong surfing trip to Namotu and Tavarua islands in Fiji.
The reefs were a ways from the beach so they would taxi us out the break. I remember thinking you could read a newspaper thru the waves, they were so clear.
They all had new Yamahas and were doing daily trips out past the reefs and catching tuna and wahoo for the kitchen. All the surfing, fishing, eating, drinking you could stand for 125$ a day. (1998)
