25 powerplay rough water ride.
Hey guys I'm new to the site. I have looked at all of the 25 powerplay discussions and it seams everybody loves these hulls and says they ride good. I'm just a little confused and curious how does the ride compare to a 24 degree deadrise hull with narrower beam such as a pantera or action. If it's as good or better can anyone explain to me what characteristics make it ride so good having a wide beam and 22 degree deadrise rather then narrower and deeper v. Thanks alot.

The 25' Powerplay is a pad bottom boat(unlike the other models). It isnt going to ride as well as a 24 dead rise bottom boat. However, it should be faster

Any 24’ in rough water is gonna suck...guess it depends on your definition of rough water. Anything bigger than 2-3’ is gonna blow.

The 25 is an awesome boat bot takes some seat time to master, especially if you haven't driven a pad V-bottom. Faster with the pad but that also reduces its ability to slice through chop. Ran mine for two seasons before going back to a cat.

I had a 24 python that was a 24/7 boat, think it had a pad too. It handled really well at 50+ with a rough 2ft white cap lake chop. It did not handle well at slower speeds or with a lot of weight and it would not land level. It sat so low in the rear with 5 young fit adults that I was worried it would sink while anchored because the bilge vents would get so close to the water.
There is more to a good ride than just deadrise. The cockpit in the 25 powerplay is pushed back farther than just about any other boat out there and that should help improve the feel of the ride. A boat that has a solid glass hull will have a better ride feel vs a boat with a cored hull. If you look at how people run a 21 Apache, which is not a 24 degree hull, or people that run their 20-23 Albury brother boat to the bahamas and back you can attribute a lot of the success in ride quality to being a solid glass hull. You can tell it's solid glass if light shines thru an unfinished area like in the bottom of the anchor locker or if you can get somewhere under the floor or bilge if not painted and make sure you are looking at the bottom of the hull as some would build solid hull bottoms with cored hull sides. |
