Taking the Verado plunge...300's vs. 350's

Going to repower my Cig Cafe Open. It currently has twin Merc 250 EFI 2-stroke smokers. Gonna pull the trigger on some Verados tomorrow and looking for opinions on if it's worth it to go with 350s over 300s. PS- I don't care about speed.... It's not a speedboat. The boat does 58-60 mph with the 250s. Anyone have any real world experience with this choice???

I don't know about the 300's, but my 350's would take the place very well.

?? Are you selling them?

500HP in a 35 foot boat doing 60mph seems pretty fast to me. If you figure 58mph divided by 500hp that gives you .116 mph per hp. Multiply that by 600 and 700 you get 69.6 mph at 600hp and 81.2 mph. That being said please disregard the last 2 sentences. Good luck in whatever you decide.

Your math forgets to adjust for weight.........Verados are a lot heavier than old 2 strokes

Just needed to save this! :D :D :D

What about the new 300R? Lots of torque!

Way back question, on this boat you had a fuel smell/possible leak. What was your solution/outcome?

I think that 63-4 with the 300's and 67-8 with the 350's is more realistic. We spend the majority of our time around 45mph.. But, less stress on 'em at cruise speeds with the 350's is what I'm wondering??? I think that the pricing is about 3-4000 per engine. Trying to figure out if it's worth it. Are they the same engines with different programs or are they different builds?

Well.... I have to admit that I obviously don't know chit about these outboards. LOL I was talking about the 300 and 350 that look the same and wasn't even considering the new style 300. I'll make a last minute decision when I'm at the table. :drink:

I have 300's on my 39CC Cig and they have been good, the 350's get you 3-6mph from what I remember, more torque as well. I do look at the style of your boat. It needs to look good off the back of your Cig. The 350 looks like it belongs on your boat IMO, 300's are narrow/tapered, certainly modern. I also read something about Merc doing away with the 350 at some point as the 300 power band is comparable to a 350 in certain speed ranges, weight would be a consideration as well, .
