496 HO Hose disconnected coming from air intake with brass fitting

Hey guys,

I’ll be honest with everyone, I’m still somewhat new to this motor. But, i went to replace my IAC Valve at the back of the motor, and noticed I have this hose for the running from my air intake with a little brass fitting at the end that is completely disconnected back there. Does anybody know what this does and where it goes?

really appreciate your help!

Sorry guys I can’t post any pics yet, it’s not letting me

I can't think of what you are talking about. I think we need a picture. Post 9 more times and you will be able to post a picture.

Yes, thank you, it’s the 1/2” hose running coming from the air intake/throttle body. I attached it back into the IAC this weekend, but it keeps slipping back out.

If it's the brass fitting at throttle body that fell out I had the same thing happen on my 496. All I did was use sandpaper to rough fitting then clean it with brake clean including throttle body throttle body, then some red locktite and tap back in. Let dry 24hrs and go boating. If it's very loose then JB weld is my second choice

THANKS Woodchuck.
Did you notice a surging noise when it fell out? When it was idling?

that’s what I will do tho. Didn’t know if I could take a hose clamp to it or not.

Woodchuck: what do I do when I have to replace the IAC valve, how am I going to get the hose off of it after I use Locktite red? Thanks

That filling goes into the block that the IAC bolts on to. You wont have to ever remove it.

PA.WOODCHUCK 04-07-2021 06:46 PM

Like Keith said. your IAC should look like this.

Genuine Mercury & Mercruiser parts. 862998 Idle Air Valve
