Went to order some stuff from West Marines on line, as have done MANY times before. Gotta use my $30 in advantage points. ;)

wanted:

303 Protectant ($13), vinyl and leather cleaner ($13) , wheel bearing grease ($5)
(have ordered these 3 items before from WM several times)

also wanted:

boidegradable non skid deck cleaner ($7) and
biodegradable boat wash ($7).
These 2 items or FISHY, enviromental safe!

sub total $45
shipping over $76!!!!!!!!!!! This is the shipping cost ONLY!

Because all 5 items are now labeled as hazardous shipping! Give me a friggin break.

Order.......CANCEL!

US 1, I ran into the same thing with Boat U.S. I was ordering a bottle of hull cleaner for about 20 bucks, and the shipping alone was going to be 38 bucks:eek:

It gets better, I told the guy on the phone to cance the order, he asked why and I told him that for 38 dollars I could drive to the closest Boat U.S. store 98 miles away!:rolleyes: Then the guy starts giving me a bunch of **** about being a tight wad:eek: :mad:

Needless to say I have not spent a dime with Boat U.S. since:D

I usually order the hazardous stuff from the West Marine store along with anything that could easily be damaged in shipping like an antenna or continuous hinge. I'm lucky because I can have the wife swing by the store on her way home from work. It also saves money if I don't go to the store.

It's the tree huggers. hang on cause this kind of stuff is only gonna get worse:(

Just got back. Made the 2 hr round trip. Maybe $6-8 in gas. That leaves $70 for gas for the boat! :D

WM dude thinks it is because of the Florida plane crash last year that had all the oxygen(?) bottles on board that went boom.

Wonder if they actually have more cost to ship, or just an excuse for more profit? My guess is a tiny bit of the 1st, a lotta bit of the 2nd, as this was ground ship (UPS) not air.

This may be an issue that their store is not set up to calculate multiple ordered items to give you a break in shipping.. I have the same problems on my Ebay store, But I am able to list in the items description multiple purchases will have discounted shipping rates.. Its up to me to make sure I contact our customers at the time of the purchase to give them their total.

Sounds like they are making a killing with their online sales set up this way in bogus shipping charges... They should have it set up differently or change their online checkout policy..
