TOP 5 Performance boats Under 40'????????

What are your top 5 performance boats under 40 ft (100mph+), I/O or O/B doesn't matter. Some reasons why would help too.

My choices today, tomorrow maybe different!!

1. 388 Skater I/O; proven race boat winner, and a great pleasure boat capable of being extremely fast. Just a beautiful boat, I have always loved this model388 – Skater Powerboats *(since this is just a dream boat, might as well go big with power too, not the average engine, just marinize two of these Sonny Leonard motors for me SAR 1005 (2100 HP) - Sonny's Racing Engines)

2. 39' Cigarette (obviously I/O preferably - with staggered Mercury 860's 860 | Sterndrives | Mercury Racing), it is a beautiful boat, may not be the fastest V out there, but I would rather be a little slower in Cigarette on any Sunday afternoon just the coolest boat on the water. It is a shame that the 39' model appears to be dropped from the current offering(s) by Cigarette, but I believe if you want one built, it would be built, $$$,$$$

3. 28' Tuff Marine, this is a cool low profile hot-rod, I love the idea and the proven record of going 120+ mph in 28' Tuff, just a really cool boat.TUFF 28 — Tuff Marine (tuffboats.com)

4. 32' Doug Wright with twin 450hp Mercury O/B. The 32' DW works great on the race course, and I have believe that the pleasure version would be a very nice combination. I love Skater boats, but I have watched those DW's race boats kick ass in a variety of water conditions which is a selling point for me. I not only want to go fast but I also want to bring myself and my passengers home safely at the end of the day, and I believe that the 32' Doug Wright improves my odds at 100 mph as compared to similarly situated catamarans in that size range traveling above 100 mph.2019/2020 Doug Wright 32 Twin 450 Mercury Racing for sale - $449,000 - Mohave County, AZ - 82b6c2 - boatexportusa.com

5. 34' Van Dam with a single I/O- just a cool looking boat, not your typical hot-rod Van Dam Custom Wooden Boats & Yachts | Victoria Z (vandamboats.com) with a 1350 Mercury, now that would be awesome - Dual Cal 1550/ 1350 | Sterndrives | Mercury Racing (

(or any 32' -39' Phantom model that Will Smith would build for me)

I am neutral when it comes to any MTI model. I have ALWAYS loved Skater boats, and for this size range lineup of under 40 foot MTI would not be in my top five. Now if you said 48' foot and larger Cats, MTI does peak my interest. MTI builds beautiful and well performing boats, but it I am a Skater enthusiast.

I don’t think 860’s fit in a 39 Cigarette!

Smarty 04-13-2021 09:44 PM

I would find a way to make them fit, not an issue

Drock78 04-14-2021 05:42 AM

They should fit if it's a full stagger. They will not fit in a side by side or short stagger because of the exhaust.
