OT, digital camera SmartMedia cards
Have an Olypmus camera that came with only a 16MB Olympus-Camedia card, and am going to buy a 64 or 128 card.
Found the brand 'Power User' from a warehouse.com flyer that are quite abit cheaper in price. These any good? Thanks |
stick with a name brand like Lexar, Sandisk, or other.
Check out www.pricescan.com OR www.pricegrabber.com for best deals |
You know I have a few cards and they are all different mfgs. I don't see a difference but now you have me thinking....are there any differences in each brand? They look the same so who knows:(

The only thing I have found with my Olympus digital, is that if you buy a card that isn't from them, my camera, which is capable of "creating" electronically blended panoramic pictures, can't.
It has to be their smart media card for this feature to work. Omigosh! I just sounded like a major geek! Sorry. |
Stick with the "smartmedia"...It costs a little more, but is much more reliable and has faster read/write times. I also have an Olympus with the same cards and when I borrowed a friend's off-brand memory card, I was not impressed.

Try www.photoworks.com
They sell SanDisk & Lexar memory cards at reasonable prices, offer online sharing & archiving. They will print your photo's, make calendars, christmas cards or burn them on a CD. I just got some prints back and they look great! |

I think if you check into it you'll find that if you buy a "smart media" card once you use it in your camera, it won't work in anyone elses, it kinda programs itself to your cam, at least thats what they told me about them and my sony cam, check it out before you buy one of those, just to make sure, or the salesman may have been feeding me a line of poo poo.

I've used mine in a variety of cameras...My Olympus, My Mom's Fuji, a couple others. Never a problem with compatibility.

THANKS ALL!
That pricegrabber.com really has some great info. Prices all over the range. I'm aware of the need to format the non Olympus cards. So are the Sandisk cards equal to the Olympus cards as far as speed read/write times? |
Sorry, 1 more question...
What is a NAND card? The Sandisk has 2 choices for the 128. NAND being one of them. Just Say N20' Thanks for that tidbit. I don't see where any of the other brands mention the panerama option. Is that an OLYMPUS brand card feature only? Ok, maybe 2 more ???'s  Thanks |

Olympus panorama
The discrete panorama mode of the Olympus camera (I have a C-2100) can only work with the Olympus Smart Media AND you pay $20-30 more.
You can create a pamorama without the Olympus card if you have a fairly steady hand and a photo editing (Paint Shop Pro- Photo Shop-Photo Delux, etc.) software program. I get 257 shots with a 128 at HQ resolution and 90 with the Super high Quality (SHQ). I shoot about 700 shots per race. I use San disc and have never had a problem. Amazon has some cheap prices for the San Disc.. marc |
