Help with Sonic 2003

I'm looking for input on the 38' and 42'SS. If anyone seen them both and what is the good points and bad if any between them.
Thanks Rich

I seem to like their cabins over many other boats.
Get the 42 and you will never be saying you should have bought the bigger one.

Depends on what you want to do with the boat. If you do alot of overnighting then go with the 42, if not and you want speed and performance you can get more bang for your buck with a 386 same power that you might put in the 42.:p Are you looking new or used? There is a sweet 42 used in Indiana, I just saw pics. I think it is a 1994 or 95. I know there will be a new one at the Chicago boat show.

Let me know what you decide.

I would buy the 38 for speed (its not exactly lacking in the cabin either.) If you need more cabin then I would skip up to the 45 and be done with it.

Thanks for the input. I'm looking at new. I think the new 525's would get the 42' about 75 to 78 mph. Also looking for good size cabin with all the goodies. You have any idea if my guess at the speed is right. Also have you been in both. Is there a big diff.

Thanks Rich

I was at the FLL show and on the 38 and 45. Between the 2 the 45 had a little better headroom, much nicer V berth, other than that they were kind of close.

Both have a great cabin and outrageous cockpit, the 42 is available with a side by side(dual) helm, If you boat with kids or a honey the helm is great, if you troll for honeys wit da boys the 38 will do fine. the both have a 25deg deadrise so big water is no problem. Check out the way they build them and the size and you'll see they are alot of bang for the buck, the amount of people that have owned multiple Sonics is amazing.
You should get in line before the Miami boat show so you can be boating before summer.

Thanks for the help. I will call the factory and set up a time to go see them. Hope they have both to sea test, that will help make up my mind. I want or I should say my wife wants stand up room, she is tired of low cabin area and would like more room. The rest of the boat is ALL MINE.

Thank Rich

I think the new 525's would get the 42' about 75 to 78 mph.
Any comments on this point ?

Both the 38 and 42 have standup cabins and are huge V births and cockpits are about the same size the head in the 42 is alittle bigger and the side by side is alittle different.

Jassman 11-19-2002 01:35 PM

I prefer the 42ss over the 38, the ride is better, I feel alot more cabin room, and the difference in top end with twinn 500 efi's is 70 for the 42 and 75 for the 38, with out the hulls being infused, or vaccum bagged.

Looney Tune 11-19-2002 09:45 PM

The 42 w/o the ITS and the new 525's will run about 72. They are saying that the 386 w/ITS and 525's are running 80-81 Ask sydawayz he sea trialed the 386.

There is a brand new 42 for sale with the 525's at Grand Sport Center. Rumor has it was painted by Michert T. Should be at the Chicago show.

Sydwayz 11-19-2002 10:49 PM

Yes, I did sea trial the 386 offered by OP at the Annapolis and Ft. Laud Boat Shows. New loaded 386 less generator, infused hull, full cabin, 525s with ITS, 3 guys, 100 gallons of fuel, we were right at 80mph in the salt with only 2 footers. The boat has hit 81-82 with less fuel, 1 man aboard, and 3 footers. All speeds are GPS.

Sydwayz
What do you think the 42 will do with 525 and ITS loaded no gen. Have you gone for a ride in a 2003 42' ?
Thanks Rich

Looney Tune
Do you have a phone # or web site. Any pictures of the boat.
Thanks Rich

Sydwayz 11-21-2002 03:18 AM

BOSSMAN,
Sorry, I cannot offer up any assistance on that one. Maybe Jay himself can.

Looney Tune 11-21-2002 12:20 PM

Bossman, Mark from Grand Sport has a 42 on order. He is ordering it w/o ITS and I have been told that it will do 72 w/o ITS and aprox. 75 with. If you are interested, the boat has not been rigged yet so you could get them to put the ITS in. Also, I understand you do not have to purchase/close untill the spring.

He is getting an outrageous paint job from Mitchert T. If you are interested call Mark Miller at 708-453-2116. Mark ran an add in Powerboat Magazine. That has a pic of the 02 42.
