Part out my Cig? What do you think?

Well, I can't believe is hasn't sold yet. 5 positive buyers went through survey (passed 100%) and even got insurance quotes of around 16-$1700 per yr. then backed out for various financing reasons.
I was just thinking about parting out the boat:(
What do you think?
Hull & rigging inc cockpit & cabin $25k
SSM3A drives, gimbals, trim cyls. inner plates & steering $14k
625hp high end Blue Lightning marine engines complete, turn key motors with 110hrs $12k/pair
I hate to do it but I'm considering ......................

DJD 11-18-2002 08:00 PM

p.s. 1986 38 super clean Cigarette 38 Flat Deck. Look at the OSO classified section for pics or boattraderonline.
New Paint, bottom re-gelcoated, transom replaced, 99 Top Gun cockpit etc..etc...

Crazyhorse 11-18-2002 08:12 PM

DJD, please keep me informed. Thanks. Dave

DJD 11-18-2002 08:14 PM

Jesse
I have had deals range from 65k to an all time low of 52k.
At this point, I'd take 50. Check out the classifieds for pics.
Turn key, on a nice trailer, ready to go............

I agree with Too Old. Pull the arch (makes it look old/funny) and after looking at the pics I would spend a couple bucks and replace the throttles/shifters with modern stuff so that it doesn't seem as old. Other than that I think it is a very nice boat and if I had some bucks would probably take a look at it. I will talk it up around the Chicago area over the winter for you.

Audiofn 11-18-2002 10:20 PM

I would also try it with out the arch. I would NOT pull it apart to sell it in pieces. The only way that will work is if you are selling the pieces real cheap, and you do not want to do that. Best bet is to keep it together and hang in there. Is it in Florida yet?

I agree removal of the arch will most certainly update the look. The installation of updated throttles is not a major investment and will also increase resale value. In the case of marine parts the whole is usually worth more than the sum of the parts unless you can afford to wait untill someone needs or wants excatly what you have to sell, otherwise you will probably get less than what you are currently being offered. Just my opinion and it is worth excatly what you have just paid for it. Non the less hope it helps.

I like the arch personally (okay no beating on Jay here guys)
but turn it around, and take the Raytheon off of it
Hummm 50 g's is not THAT bad but I think a little high.
sad thing is something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it.
I like it, nice ride
Maybe get some vinyl graphics to jazz it up, that is what all the newbies in boating are going for.
simple stripe or line is not enough, they want wild 50 thousand dollar paint jobs, to save yourself some money, go to raceline digital or something like that and jazz it up a notch, probably have some more interest in it once you do that.

I've been watching this boat for a while now, I'm just not in the position to make a move (so I've tried to stay quiet about it ;) ). Dave, I agree with the posts above - pull the arch and replace the shifters/throttles. In fact, in my "if it were mine" scenarios, those were the first two projects I had scheduled.

Who knows, we might be in the market come spring, if you still have it I'll be in touch (but seriously, good luck selling it, I know you've had it on the market for a while now). Better sell it before Too Old gets done with the Mistress, otherwise there will be two mid-80 Cigs for sale on OSO! :D

I to have watched this boat for some time now....
I would NEVER want to step on DJD s toes, but.....
The arch realy bothers me....And something about the graphics ?
Just not me....

I LOVE flatdecks..........I hope i am helping...I wish I could own it..

fred 11-19-2002 11:02 AM

I wouldn't seperate or part it out....sooner or later someone will come along and snag it....it may not be a good time of the year to turn right now.....keep advertising in various areas to get all the exposure you can,....good luck,....Fred

Take that boat and make it look like this.

Arches are great overhead bridge catchers on the highways.

Ditch the arch, and update the paint.

dyno 11-19-2002 12:15 PM

DJD 11-19-2002 02:58 PM

OK, ok, ok guys.
The arch is coming off!
Kohldog, thanks for the picture editing! It does look good without it!
I'm not going to do paint. I'll leave that to the choice of the new owner.
Does anyone have a pair of shifters & throttles?

ps, parting it out seems harsh but I now have several e-mail from people interested in engines, several more on the drive package and one on the hull. I'll have to think about it. The only way it happens like this is everything is pre sold (or with BIG deposits).
Thanks for your input guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Performance??

Whats the performance on this rig? I agree that thing is a totally different animal without the arch (to Don Johnson, eighties looking).

I used to work on a late 80's cig that had 650hp 540's and it did mid to upper 70's. We put 598's 800hp, it ran upper 80's.

What are you running top end? What rpm's? What cruise, and at what RPM's?

MrCIG 11-19-2002 04:28 PM

Dave,
Don't do anything yet. A friend of mine and Pauls will be calling you. He has cash and is very interested.

Where is the boat? Is it in Stuart or back home.

mark

Biggus 11-19-2002 04:45 PM

Dave, I think it would look much better without the trailer;)

Biggus 11-19-2002 05:21 PM
