PIA code alarm
Problem.
Had engines pulled and redone, ever since have had naging alarm codes, have had cleared yet still come back. Alarm I get is ....... " Beep-Beep" "Beep-Beep" "Beep Beep" Same deal over and over again, per book it is low gear lube which is not the case at all. Any ideas?????????????????????????? |
What motor, serial number is best?
|
low oil pressure is the other reason for the beeps
|
Scan the engine. Pretty sure oil pressure, gear lube, or temp will produce a steady beeeeeeeeeeep.
|
Over rev in neutral is one of many 2 beep alarms
|
525 EFI
Per Merc manual, the small one in the packet not the full service one, the only two beep alarm is low gear lube. Motors have been scanned showed the low gear lube and were cleared. All mechanical gauges read fine. Just comes back over and over. Res is full, pumped up from the drive fill. Do the res bottles go bad? Question................ If you unplug one or both wires to the Res bottle will that cut out the alarm feature? As a way to maybe tell if the Res bottle has gone bad? |

The float at the bottom of the reservoir can get stuck and will set off the alarm. When the float is down, it essentially completes the circuit. Pull one wire and it'll stop. Then order a new res bottle.

SB and Griff,
Thanks for the info. Thought that might be the case just wanted some confirmation. Motors were done before the Covid chit, did not get to run it last summer due to low water levels and the Canadian border closure up here. Plan to get it out and run it soon and wanted some sort of a plan to put this to bed. It's a nagging PIA. Thanks again! |

Question here is ............... Do I need to have the trouble codes cleared out in order to make the beep beep chit go away? Every mechanical gauge on the boat says all is good to go, right where it needs to be. Just at a loss on this deal. |
Did the alarm stop after you unplugged the drive lube wires??
I'm not sure if the 525EFI PCM stores the code. The alarm should stop even if its not cleared though. |

I'm not sure if the 525EFI PCM stores the code. The alarm should stop even if its not cleared though. Unplugged one wire then backed in the water and fired up, within few seconds / less than a minute the same alarm code went off. Repeated a number of time as I ran each engine for about 15 min each to get water temp up and start to see some oil temp as well. Thanks for the comment. Just puzzled by this. |
Is the 2 beep alarm sounding when either engine is running with the other engine off??

Launched it yesterday and ran it for the afternoon. For the first 1/2 hour or so the alarm would go off every so often then it just went away. This is the same deal it went thru before. Will repeat the two beep alarm three times then stop, then repeat the same a while later. Both run fine, oil pressure at 50, oil temp at 190, water temp at 160. |
Just a bump here, looking for any help or suggestions.
Thanks. |

Need to have it hooked to scanner when it is doing it. You need to figure out which engine is causing the issue.

Merc alarm codes Thanks Griff. Believe that is what I need to do now. Where I am there are few good Hi Perf Merc tecs, All the real vitals show fine so I am sure this is some electronic glitch. Oh for the old days of mechanical gauges and common sense. Love the solid performance of the EFI motors but they are a PIA for we old school guys. Just can not be a lot wrong with a boat that runs a solid 90 at will all afternoon long. Thanks again for the advise. |
