APACHE definitely has a reputation and a loyal following but they are not an investment in the same terms as a Ferrari. Agreed^^^^^ Limited market, used race boat/5 pack bolsters/no cabin. Yes the boat is legendary but how many other perfectly restored Apaches got 30 cents on the restoration dollar when it came time to sell. Ultimate Warrior and Spirit of Apache were both over the top restorations and took forever to sell at some crazy low price (compared to what was spent to restore them). Another interesting issue will be insurance on this 41. Lets say it sells for 500K, how many carriers will want to insure a 35 yr old 2000 HP boat for any rate nevermind 500K+ agreed value. There have been guys on here with 1200 HP and nobody wants to insure the boat for 75K agreed value. |

Happened every time I bought a boat. Boats and bikinis stole all my money. And now the little bikini babe that swam up to my boat 20 plus years ago is still robbing me blind with princess ****. Now we have 4 horses, 3 cats, 2 dogs and and a tractor since we sold the boat.
Any pics of the tractor? :D |

The problem with insurance isn’t finding coverage…it’s how much you have to spend to get that coverage. for the average person like me…yes finding coverage at a reasonable rate would be impossible. I’m a cheap bastard only willing to spend 2-3k a year. Highly unlikely I would find anyone. for a person dropping 300-400k on an old boat. They will find a classics insurance agency that deal with specialty items and gladly insure it for 10-15k a year. And the person will happily sign the dotted line. How do you think collectors get insurance agencies to insure 80 year old ferraris. I don’t see an issue |
Cars in this price range typically sit in fancy garages and are viewed more than driven. A boat sitting on a trailer doesn't look as appealing.

Not negative but just pointing out the reality of insuring a 500K 35 year old Apache is going to be tough. |

You are way off base.........Several people have posted they can't find any coverage for older boats, others post the renewal rates are crazy money. Ferraris are a good risk, they rarely leave the climate controlled garage! My buddy insures a new Pista in S Florida for $1800 a year, why? Because the insurance company knows he won't drive it 30X a year, 1500-2000 miles tops. Collector car market is huge, so is the insurance market for those cars. Collectible performance boats, no so much.

Not negative but just pointing out the reality of insuring a 500K 35 year old Apache is going to be tough. I own an old boat. 27 years old. Have owned it for 8 years. Also know several people with late 80’s cigarettes. coverage has never been an issue. it’s the price of coverage that is the stumbling block. Go re-read insurance threads. 90% of them are related to “I don’t want to pay that much for insurance”. I just switched insurance companies last year. There are several companies that offered coverage including foremost, boat us, progressive, total dollar, and wagner. These by no means are specialty insurance companies. There are more exclusive insurance companies that offer vintage coverage. Companies that service the wealthy. Not the average joe. most wealthy people use umbrella policies or leverage there companies… apples and oranges comparing how I insure a boat vs how herb chambers insured his yacht and collector cars. |
Is there a law that requires a boat to be insured?
|
whomever came up with this marketing campaign is a genius and they're pushing it hard. while drumming up talk about the boat everywhere that matters (and I personally think responsible for the current price). 40 year old race boat, wet 6's, carb'd blower motors, 5 pack, no cabin.....I won't say what I think it's worth but as they say, there's a azz for every seat right? I personally would take my 300k and search out one of the 47 Apache's but that's just me.

I don't know about other states but in Michigan you don't need insurance but but I would not go boating without one I have four older running offshore boats, all of them have insurance. Back years ago on a Saturday I had a friend who rolled a offshore over in a low speed accident witnessed by myself & the coast guard, all were Ok. But by late on Monday all passengers had lawyered up, had he not have had insurance he would have lost every thing.
As for this 41, there was another one on facebook, 6 pack stag setup asking 325K. It had a blue interior. Nuts but if someone pays it good for the seller. |
