Are the Merc 450s having any issues like prop shaft breakage
I’m thinking about installing a pair of Merc 450s on my 32 manta and wondering how the engines have been holding up and if they have any issues to be concerned about, thanks in advance for any info, Rm

I asked a reputable Marine shop about switching my 400 to 450 and I was told to stick with my 400's. He said they break.

i have heard they break prop shafts as well...368 skater that attempted to break the damn to damn run record at LOTO broke one i believe. think there is also a parts availability issue on the 450's due to the plandemic. lots more parts on shelves for verado's all over vs the newer 450's

Replacement engine supposedly arriving spring of 2022

I thought they had the same LU as the 400? Why would parts for that be less available?

I talked with local guy with twin 450 cat and has had a lot problems. Broken gear cases and had ecm go out. He is not real happy.

Hi!
I also heard they have shaft problems, especially on cats where the engine is mounted high and they spin the prop when going on plane.. My 450R has been flawless. Have 80 hours so far. Massive torque. I owned 400R from 2017 until now. Great engines, but the 450R is a complete different animal. Very happy. Great fun to drive. Cheeers, Toffen |
