another expense for Super Stock racers, but I have to admit, I'd love to see the 300R in racing action!

As reported in the story, teams that want to stick with 300XS outboard power will be allowed to. No phase-out date has been set.

I am excited to see this, it will be interesting to see how the different motors compare. I think the 300R makes more power but the optimax certainty has a weight advantage and with the 15" midsection I think that would give it an advantage having a lower CG.

Isn't the 300r, 340hp? and the 300xs around 300hp?

The 300R seems to be in the 320+ range and the XS was always right around 300. It will be interesting to see how they compare next year. I wonder what teams are switching to the 300R right away?

Is it correct that the new 300R 4stroke V-8 is 512LBS and the older 300 Opti is 505LBS?

Crazy if that is correct.

That is the advertised weights however the 300R with the HD mid is actually closer to 550. Plus the 300 Opti that is raced uses an aftermarket 15" midsection so realistically there is probably at least a 50 lb difference between motors. With the 15" midsection the Optis are 5" lower getting then out of the wind some and providing lower center of gravity. I am glad they are allowing the use of both motors and am excited to see how they compare.

In my opinion having been in cats with both engines. The 300R is going to stomp the 300XS. It has around 50% more torque.
