What ever happened to this boat? I haven't heard about it in a long time.

Quite a rebuild on your link...good read!
+1 on the Mohican paint Vs the bee theme |
Never knew what happened to First Mohican. I had heard it was pretty rough when it was last listed.
Not a fan of the black and yellow |
I actually like the black and yellow! That was a good read. I can only imagine how much money and time went into this!
|
wow, never knew that about the boat, not a fan of the new colors but def a fan of seeing him do it his way.
|
Awesome link, love to see this type of rebuild. Great story...much better than the latest DCB roll-out. The workmanship, time, effort, and passion show, could do with a different color pallet but to each their own, love the fact that Bobby S. is involved so deeply.

I think the black and yellow looks bad azz, better than the original frankly. clean and sporty. Cool link and story. Thanks jack!
any more pics of this thing? Maybe running or in the water? Wonder if it’s coming out to Cali since the dude lives in L.A. now. I see the pic of him in his skater looks like havasu. |
So does this guy crank Stryper from the tape deck??
Its not that I dont like it, It looks great, but the Only Mohican is/was the Only Mohican. Its like taking hot dogs and apple pie and turning them into hamburgers and chocolate cake..Hamburgers and chocolate cake are good, but hot dogs and apple pie are the classics..... |
Pretty cool documentation of his restoration

Guy does nice work! I'd bet that boat is better than when it was new!
Don't love the paint scheme, but then again indian heads as a logo/theme are politically incorrect these days (Redskins/Indians) |
I like the old scheme better. Shame that the boat needed to be redone. I would have kept it the same. The only good news is now someone can copy the old theme on something else. If I was in the market for a new boat, Id do it with a Saber 41.

I'm surprised Chief didn't build more boats. Same with Saber, as they have the 41 and 47 Apache molds.

The past twenty years has proven there isn't much of a customer base for new Apache type boats built in old or modified molds owned by another company at a significant price. I'm sure Saber would build you a great boat.

that is a very cool project click on the link in the beginning to see all the pics ....Old School Rocks ...i,m not a fan of the huge center console outboard racks with a paint job that looks like a 5 year old with a crayon designed it

Chief, Pantera, Saber, Checkmate, north coast..am I missing anybody?
Yeah but you should have listed how many they have built: Chief- 3 (though they started calling them 42s at some point) Pantera- 2 or 3 including the race boat Saber- maybe 5-7 41's (no idea, just thinking of how many I've seen posted at poker runs over the years) Checkmate - 1 North Coast - never heard of them |
I've always said, if I had the funds, I'd have Saber build me a new 41!!
|
Still low numbers, thanks for them. Seems they should have built more, especially Saber. Seeing how long they've had the molds for the 41.

It's not just Apache, it's offshore muscle boats as a segment of boating, the demand for these hard-core deep-vee style of boats has all but disappeared within the industry, and that's why I was "shocked" when this new guy bought Cigarette...I'll bet Skip laughed all the way to the bank. And I'm sure they will sell a few, get a little resurgence, but I'll bet they never make much money, if ever.

what i dont understand is how does a boat like this or others get in this bad of shape? especially when they tell you only 50 hours on the boat.what do they do? leave it uncovered out in the sun and rain all year?

I am the owner of the boat and the guy who chose the colors and designed the new color scheme. I am also a nostalgic person and like to restore things rather than change them. When I bought the boat it was in horrible shape. The Indian head paint job was a 60 coat work of art that was probably 1/4" thick. The issue was, it had gashes and scratches running through it from the previous owners and touching it up or fixing it would never look right. I like all of my toys to be perfect, especially after a renovation like this one. I looked at stripping it down and having it repainted but all of the famous boat painters had a 1 year waiting list and I wanted to get it done and on the water quickly. It is also over a $100K Paint job in today's dollars and I wanted to use that $$$ on other parts of the boat. Choosing a simple 2 color paint scheme was way less expensive and faster. I added the deck stripe for nostalgia from my dads old racing days. I hope you all understand.

Great restore and update -- Enjoy the boat! It should do everything you were looking for and more:D The fact that Bobby was behind the project is that much better of a story...the man is a legend and just a really nice guy.

I am the owner of this boat and it finally almost finished and Fineline Interiors. The boat will be based out of California so you will definitely see it in MDR, Newport and Havasu. It will also make the nationwide Poker Run circuit.
Thanks for all the comments (both good and bad). |
He is the best and I will be sad when this project is over. I have talked to Bobby more than my own parents during the boats evolution.
|
Fantastic story and a great presentation to cover the progress.
Congrats Eric. As you can imagine I have heard a lot of this from Bobby directly and he is as excited as you are, to be involved with this. Thanks so much for picking the best in the business and the only choice, when dealing with an Apache or Chief......Mr Saccenti!!! |
It is a privileged to work with him and count him as a close personal friend and there was no better choice (or more fun) for a project of this magnitude. Many of the parts and ideas over this restoration process came with a free history lesson / trip down memory lane.
