BAHAMAS 500 sea conditions - filmscript research

Hello!

I am writing a spec filmscript which features a fictional character that takes part in a Bahamas 500 powerboat race. I am in the UK (on the Isle of Wight), and so cannot explore the area in person. I have just started researching online for as much info as possible, but have been enjoying all the related posts on this forum for a while now and it seems to me that it would be a big mistake not ask you guys!

It would be really helpful (and I'd be so grateful), if someone could describe what the sea conditions are/were like (or hazards/obstacles/difficulties) between each checkpoint?

As far as I understand the course was:
A lap around Lucaya Beach, 2) Great Isaac Light, 3) Bimini (western edge), 4) Gun Cay, 5) Silvia Light, 6) Nassau for refuelling, 7) once around New Providence Island, 8) Governor's Harbour Eleuthera, 9) Current Cay, 10) Great Abaco Island (western edge), 11) Sweetings Cay and finally 12) Lucaya beach finish.

Many thanks,

Bob

I would read as many articles as possible about the races and I bet you've watched this documentary from the 1968 race. Plenty of other film clips on the web. I would also

interview some of the British racers that took part and definitely a couple of the American ones. Flying is affordable and there's no way I'd put my name on a script without having

ventured the racecourse onboard a performance powerboat. Best of luck and I hope the film gets made.

A decent article:

How do you get a job writing on an unknown subject in unknown (to you) area. Sorry I don’t mean to disrespect original poster just find it amusing. Then again could just be the writer’s talent.

Isn't that true of most of the media these days?

Very interesting, would like to see a film like this done right. Not many offshore powerboat race movies are watchable, not many made actually. The last one with John Travolta playing Don "Aranof" was poorly made with cheesy special effects that didn't need to be there. Good luck in your endeavor, hope it turns out well for you.

Hi Dave M,

I don't work for the media. I'm self-employed with a filmscript writing hobby.
Smiley face!
