Security Camera for dock.
 

Just installed a Reolink security camera on the dock. $300 from Amazon. No WiFi out there so I went with cellular. $20/mo from T-Mobile.
IR night vision, motion detection, alarm, speaker, pan and tilt. Sends real time notices to my IPhone.

How timely...as I just had a surfboard stolen off my back deck (attached to my dock).
I DO have wifi available and was looking at Nest and Ring brands...any suggestions from your (or others on the Forum) experience/research?

For the house I used the Arlo Pro 4 cameras. $450 for 3 from BestBuy. These are WiFi. The kit comes with 4 batteries. They’ll last from 2-4 weeks and are easy to change out. No wires to run.
Motion detectors, they can identify a person, animal or vehicle. Record to the cloud. Notices sent to my iPhone.

If you have power on your dock, I'd suggest Wyze.

I have the Wyze at home. They work well. Typically have to charge the batteries every 2-3 months

I took the easy simple cheap Blink route at home, lake, and dock.
Once I added mesh router that let wifi stretch out it was so easy a cavemen (and me too)could do it

I run 10 Wyze v3s outside my house, and 3 inside LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them.

I reused the 12v wiring I had from my previous camera install to power them.

+1 for Wyze, simple, reliable, inexpensive and don't require a "hub" or "base". The Wyze cams have been more reliable, and lasted longer than our Nest cams. I have them in a storage building and they work great.

We've had both EPS and ADT, and had issues with both and the quality of their "professional installation" was a joke. I am not a handyman - my idea of a level is to drink a beer down to the label - and I was disgusted by the job that was done.

We switched to NEST.

For the most part, we like the NEST system, but range is an issue, and it is very sensitive; we get a lot of false alarms IE "Smoke in the upstairs bedroom" when there is no smoke. We also get frequent false alarms of the security system, often enough that I set up a portable camera in our hallway where we were getting motion detection to see what the hell was tripping the alarm. I ended up disabling the motion detection in the hallway. We still don't know what was tripping the motion alarm.

We'll probably go to a professionally installed system; between what we've spent on ADT/EPS/Nest and the frustration with all of them we'd have saved money in the long run. "Buy once, cry once" would have been true for us but your mileage may vary.

I have no power in my pole barn, which is across the street from our house. I hung a pair of MURS alert transmitters in my barn & I also hung one under the cover of our boat lift. They're basically a driveway monitor which sends a sends a signal to a receiver in the house, which then signals an "ALERT!" for the appropriate zone.

My issue with cameras is they only send an alert to your phone, which isn't going to wake me up. With a camera I"m going to be left with a nice picture or video of someone walking off with stuff. With the MURS I'm going to get notified some obviously misunderstood "yute" is about to make a poor life choice and I'll have the opportunity to politely and positively affect their future.

I have Bosch starlight cameras with full analytics on both houses, same cameras we sell the Pentagon. My Beach House also has a Bosch Alarm panel. With the Bosch system I have the camera analytics tied into the alarm panel. When the alarm is armed the cameras are looking for a person that is within 10-15' of my house. I have the alarm panel tied into the sprinkler system so it fires the appropriate sprinkler. Best part is it sends me an alert and a video clip so I get a good laugh. Nobody can get to either house without me knowing about it. My next project is adding a PTZ with a laser pointer to really put the fear of God into them. I can also upload audio files to the cameras and connect them to an amplified speaker and play the file when the analytics are triggered. My camera on my gun safe plays dogs barking.

All good points...I figured with a good video camera and some sort of "cloud" 30-90 day storage system I would have some record to show the authorities. I am sometimes not at/near the house for 60 straight days and would like a storage system that I can refer to/review...that records whenever the motion sensor is activated (or something like that).

And do you have a recording devise or are you contracted to store in the cloud (whenever motion is sensed)? How much storage space do you have/contract.

I have motion lights battery salt water takes a toll on them may add ring application for more security?

you get free 12 second clips, but you can put a SD Card in each camera. I got a 10 pack, should be in my link about my setup.
Even though the video is stored on the SD card, you can download it to your phone from anywhere, view it, play it back, etc.

the only real advantage to cloud storage vs. local would be if internet is cut after the fact. or they break/smash/steal the actual camera.

Not really that bad if it's something you value. includes some AI features as well. you can get smarter notices like "dog detected" or "person detected" vs. just "motion".

Wyze makes a robot vacuum that is also kick ass FYI.
