Fishing buddies suck. Any good stories?

40 years ago, when I’d go water skiing with my older brother (his boat) we’d all chip in for fuel. Lake was a two hour drive each way and we’d fill the boat up on the way home. Instead of saying “Cost $25 to refill, 5 people, so that’s $5 each” he’d note how many times each one of us had a ski, divide the total fuel bill by the number of skis and then charge us per ski, rounded up to the nearest 20 cents!
It was a long time ago and fuel was cheap but I vowed that when I owned boats, I’d never charge anyone for fuel but Id ask guests to bring food and drinks.
To stay fair to the OP, I’ve never done long trips out to fishing spots, burning huge amounts of fuel. 🙂

I never ask for anything and never take it if offered. I own the boat and the expenses that come along with it. If it is a regular they eventually know to bring the food, ice and their drinks. I have a great group of boating friends that know what to do. I shoot over to Milwaukee with friends on their cruisers, but those are planned events and I'll throw a few hundred for fuel and marina expense. I'd be excited that he actually offered. The $20 shows he probably doesn't realize your cost for the day.
My $0.002 (inflation)

Never occurred to me to ask for expect contributions for gas with the boat, if I can't afford to run it I shouldn't own it. And I'm going out anyway, would rather have company most of the time. Running out by myself at times is really cool too, didn't happen often but was very relaxing and free when I'd do it.
