Chevy 2500 HD

Looking to purchase a new 2500 HD crew cab. Anyone on the board own or work at a dealership please contact. I would like to give a fellow offshore enthusiast the business.

thunderdan 11-21-2002 08:48 PM

Are you looking at gas or diesel, if gas which motor? We have 3 hd2500, all gas.

JackL 11-21-2002 09:01 PM

Gas. LS crew cab in black. Where are you located ?

thunderdan 11-21-2002 09:08 PM

I mean that we have 3 hd2500 gas motors that we use at work. The 2 are 2002 that have engine ticks, the 2001 runs great. I personally drive a 2003 f-350 psd. What are you towing???

cdaniel525 11-21-2002 09:43 PM

I got a flyer in the mail today from CHEVY/GMC about all 1500-3500 trucks having 0 % or $2000. cash back. just trying to save you some money !! put it towards your boat.

Tinkerer 11-21-2002 10:59 PM

YEA -- the FORD may outpull the chevy ( I find that hard to believe) for a short while untill the TRANY dumps.

Sydwayz 11-22-2002 12:07 AM

Contact 'bsag' or 'Formula1' from here on OSO. They both can take good care of you.

Too Old and myself bought from Brett Dean (bsag).
My sister and brother in law bought from Steve Rambo (Formula1).

Tinkerer 11-22-2002 09:05 AM

I get my info right from the horses mouth. The DIESEL web sites. LOTS of complaints from FORD owners about their transmissions.
Constant problems and not being fixed at the dealers. I will stick with MY CHEVY.

formula1 11-23-2002 03:28 PM

Hey JackL, I would be happy to assist you with a new Chevy truck purchase! And on the OFF chance you decide to get a Ford, we are also one of the largest Ford retailers in the Mid-Atlantic area.

I have a very good selection of 2500 and 3500 trucks. Feel free to call me at 301-627-5700 or 240-299-0995 and ask for Steve.

eMotiondriver 11-23-2002 05:49 PM

Save money in the long run, Buy a DIESEL better Mpg....

BobbyB 11-23-2002 06:04 PM

Hey formula1 what dealership do you work for? I am in maryland and looking for a new f350 dually. I was out looking today and wouldnt mind seeing what you have to offer. Thanks Bobby

Magicfloat 11-23-2002 06:21 PM

We have a 2500HD, 8.1 gas,Allison trans. If it were stolen tonite I would buy a duplicate tomorrow, best truck I've ever owned. Towing a 382 Formula to Ft Laud Monday with it.

formula1 11-23-2002 06:38 PM

I work at Sheehy Auto Stores. I currently run the Chevrolet and Isuzu franchises and next door is the Dodge dealership. Chevrolet has really come along ways with their diesel. It's really impressive when mated with the Allison transmission. The 8100 V8 is equally impressive, but the gas mileage stinks!! We stock both. Anyone interested in a new domestic truck let me know.

Jack,
I have a Duramax deisel 2500 HD with the 5 sp. auto. I absoutely love it. I am from Wisconsin and plow alot of snow with an assortment of trucks. We just got back from florida after towing our '36 apache there to leave it for the winter. It pulled realitively effortless. The grade braking on the allison 5 sp. transmission is awesome. We managed to get between 9-10 miles per gallon towing. I like all deisel trucks in general but would favor the Chevy if I had to make a choice. Feel free to call me.
Tom 414-349-8567
P.S total weight going down the road 22,500lbs.

bskater18 11-23-2002 08:42 PM

I have a gmc 2500 extra cab sb with the 7.4. I get about 6-8 mpg towing 10,000lbs. of boat. On average I get about 220 miles per tank. I spoke with an owner of the same truck but with the duramax and said he got almost 600 miles per tank on the hwy. Were can I get one at a competitive price in NY new or used? Herd it has plenty of power and it doesn't shake the fillings out of your mouth like the power stroke.

johnnyboatman 11-23-2002 10:29 PM

had a ford c.c sb w/pwr stroke towing rock crawling jeep.and a 02 c,c gmc w/duramax same jeep and trailers . duramax out pulled the pwr strk from dead stop. then the ford driver said lets run from 60mph. well again the ford guy got pulled buy 3 truck lengths, now the ford is up for sale.

Nykamp 11-24-2002 08:18 PM

GMC 2500 HD

I bought a new 4-door Duramax it's sweet, towed my 36 apache home from vegas thru the rocks and she would still go 50 thru the mountians. It also got over 12 mpg in the flat lands. My 2000 6.0 only get's 12 mpg not towing any thing.

Panther 11-24-2002 08:31 PM

On a side note

Sorry Ford fans, but I was in the market for either an Excursion, Saburban, or an Yukon XL. I rode in all three, the number one choice was the Yukon, next the Saburban, and I hated the Excursion.

First of all that thing rode like the sweet pickle bus. The ride quality was horrible. It was not smooth at all and felt like a pick up truck. Second was the turning radius. To make a K-Turn you had to do it in 3 or 4 turns. It wouldn't turn worth a damn, and there were a lot of blind spots.

I choose the Saburban 2500 (too bad they don't put the Duramax in it or I would have gotten that). This truck is a pleasure to drive, it drives it self, and the ride quality is excellent for a solid rear axle and leaf springs.

You had to "Drive" the Excursion, and I would have hated driving that thing on long trips. "Just my opinion".

Sydwayz 11-25-2002 12:34 AM

PS.
I bought the Avalanche 2500 with the 8.1L (gas) and the 4spd Automatic M32 Tranny. It used to run like a S.O.B. Now, with K&N, Hypertech PPIII, and true duals with Flowmasters, it runs like a raped ape.

bsag 11-27-2002 11:26 AM

Sorry im a little late, been at the worlds in Key West. If your still in the market give me a call. I have helped several on this board purchase a vehicle and given technical info to many more. Hope to here from you, Brett Dean 410-463-1822.

formula1 11-27-2002 11:37 AM

Yeah, if ANYONE is interested in a Duramax, I have at least a dozen trucks to choose from and more coming!!:D So, let me know!! Happy Thanksgiving!

SpectreBoy 11-27-2002 04:04 PM

Pretty good discount

Jack picked up my HD 2500 yesterday, ext. cab, 4X4, Duramax, Allision auto, $4000.00 off sticker and $2000.00 rebate, and 4.65% interest on amount financed. Mine was a cheapie, so if ya get one with a lot of options you'll get more discount.

BattleCry 11-27-2002 04:48 PM

The difference is resale value. The chevy resale value is much higher than the ford. Bought and sold a few. Pound for pound and dollar for dollar the chevy is worth more than the ford. If you don't believe me look it up or try to sell a ford. GM does not have the wierd parts interchangability that ford does and for the most uses the same parts year after year. The fords have always been wierd parts and that they only fit a certain vehicle and don't interchange with other ford vehicles. Driving the cost of parts up. I got awesome fuel mileage out of the chevy 2500 with the 6Litre engine and 3.73 rear gears. 21mpg to be exact running 70mph and it was a 4x4. Try getting good mileage out of a ford. The most "I" have ever seen out of a PSD was 15mpg not pulling anything. Just do your homework and drive everything before you buy it!

JackL 11-27-2002 05:13 PM

Brett
I ordered a 2003 2500 HD crew cab. I got the LS package for $32000. Is this a good deal ? Is their any truth to the rumor that Chevy is rolling out 0% for 60 months on Monday ? Let me know if I got a raw deal and I will cancel and order from you.
Thanks
Jack Linden

I just traded mine in for a Auto.
My 2500HD had the worst gas 6.0 Lt engine ever. Tics, knocks, oil burning piece of Sh##t. I am a total chevy guru, but not a 6.0.
Truck was sweet, tow haul option a joke when towing 10,000 Lbs.
Just drop to 3 gear and run her out. My duelly 454 was the ultimat tow buggy. Belive me, I tow big sh##t.
Oh yeah, when starting my new/used 6.0 it pounded with all sorts of sounds I never heard before in a V8.
GM stated it was within the 45 second rule for start up rattles.
My 6.0 pounded untill 43 seconds. Kiss my white A$$ I said, traded it in the next week to another dealer. Hense, no more 6.0 for me. Maybe the deisel next time. Mr B3

P/S This was a small boat I hauled with my 2500HD. it was O/K to pull 8,500 Lbs with the 6.0 without tow haul being used. OD all the way. But you get heaver, it sucks.

Now i know the trailer is maxed out. But the weight of trailer and boat was 10,028.00 My 2500Hd had trouble with this load.
Nasty fuel Economy, Like 5 Mpg. 3 gear all the way home. miserable ride of my life.
My 454 duelly did this same trip, same boat with ease.

B38 11-29-2002 06:55 PM

Oh yeah, that Pic' was taken in Tennesee, I live in Wisconsin.
Proof is in the pudding!!!!!. Mr. B3
