Florida Vacation Spot for Key West alternative (with boat)
Normally we go to Key West every year for the races (without our boat), but the prices of that week have more than doubled at this point...One hotel we stayed at a couple years back skyrocketed to $999/night... Screw that
So I'm considering towing our Activator down somewhere else in FL for a week or 2 vacation in beginning end of Oct into beginning of Nov. Want somewhere that has enough slip space for 30' and parking for the truck and trailer while we are there for the week.... Looking for any suggestions? Should I go for Airbnb, VRBO, Vacasa house rental type of place OR does anyone know of any hotel/marina combos that can accommodate this. Curious what others have done for a trip like this or would suggest... Just want somewhere with some good boating, waterfront restaurants, maybe beaches, bonus if good places to tie up or sandbars... BONUS if its an area with other powerboaters that might want to make a couple runs Thanks in advance! |
Following, this should be interesting.

Hotel - $250/night with tax/fees Marina - $4 per foot x 30 = $120/night Parking -$24/night x # of spaces truck and trailer take = $72/night Total is $442/night Wonder if waterfront home rentals would be better, more convenient, boat in backyard etc |

also Fernandina Beach, Fl.-St. Augustine (and south) |
I always wanted to stay at that little dumpy hotel next to Gilbert’s for a week. Have a room that you step out the door 4’ and onto your boat! Then be able to run all over the keys even down to key west for day excursions. There’s also a cool, funky “hotel” south of key largo that has permanent house boats as rooms surrounding a pool. You can tie your boat up next to your room. Forget what the place is called but it’s pretty cool.
Post card inn would be a good destination too since it’s basically dead center in the keys. either way, I feel your pain about high prices for the worlds. It’s out of control. I’ve talked to a lot of people that are bowing out because of the hotel gouging. A lot of sentiment is “well the rich guys will pay it” but Knowing many people that can afford it no problem, I know they don’t like being taken advantage of. I’d be wary not to bite the hand that feeds you if I were the hotel association. They may find their rooms empty if they get too greedy. |
