Info on Obsession Boats

I was wondering if anyone new more information about Obsession Powerboats. I do know quite a bit about them as a friend of mine used to own one and I don't know why I am thinking of buying one too. I found one but it say's it is a 1997 and i checked on NADA and it says they were only manufactured up to 1995. Any information pro or con is helpful on helping me make a decision.

THEY WERE ONLY MANUFACTURED UP TO 1995. I COULD BE WRONG BUT I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE A SPINOFF OF ELIMINATOR BOATS. A DEALER TOLD ME THAT AT ONE TIME ELIMINATOR WAS SOLD ON THE WEST COAST AND OBSESSION WAS SOLD ON THE EAST COAST. THEY SAID THAT THE OWNERS WERE RELATED AND USED THE SAME HULL MOLDS. I COULD BE WRONG, BUT THIS IS WHAT I WAS TOLD FROM A DEALER WHO SOLD THEM IN MARYLAND (ALL PRO MARINE).

Ya know Scott, you should buy a Sonic to go with your screen name. And Sheri would like it better than another squirly boat. Did you sell the AO? I was hoping to drive it again this summer!

Anyone with any more info one these? I'm looking at a 25' party cat which I was told is the same as the 25' Eliminator has been building for 10years. Is that right?

I was really stoked about that boat!!! We drove 6 hours to see it and it wasn't what I wanted to pay on for 4 years, ya know?
We did drive it and it wasn't as fast as I'd hoped, it blew out in the turns, it was much smaller than expected and wet, really WET!
I didn't even low ball 'em with an offer. Just stuck the check back in the wallet and drove home...........

Re: Info on Obsession Boats

This party cat is like a pontoon boat! My kids love it but I don't know anything about this company. Resale value is terrible, but we plan on keeping it for awhile so that may not be an issue.
Seems very, very solid, heavy but solid. It would need an engine upgrade soon...... :D

They were made up in Shawano Wisconsin in a small factory. Not sure if they still are or what. One of my employees has a nice 24' Obsession with a 454 procharged. Runs nice :)

Re: Info on Obsession Boats

I did get ahold of Eliminator and they claimed they did not start to make a twin step until 1999

This "branch" of Eliminator was called "Eliminator East" and was using the same molds to produce boats out of Shawno, WI in the early ninties. I don't have a clear story on what happened but the guy started his own boat line called Obsession from 1993 to 1995.
Seems he took an Eliminator mold and copied it with a twin step or added a step to their mold, (I have no idea and Eliminator didn't share the full story with me.)
His steps are about 12"-18" apart whereas Eliminator has the steps much closer together (again this is what Eliminator told me yesterday I have no personal experiance here.)

I just wonder if in 1995-1996 when Obsession stoped making boats if it was due to Eliminator repo'ing their molds???

Re: Info on Obsession Boats

I got this from Hot Boat:

"Obsession was a company from back east somewhere. They were bought out by Warlock in the mid ninties. So carter reed was manufacturing them. At that time I think he was in business with canyon boats. Then they went out of business again and the molds dissapeared. I know where the 33' cat mold from obsession is. Their cats were not the most attractive on the market but I think they were ahead of their time with the cat and the designs. Nice boat, if it was actually laid up by obsession and not Carter then it was a strong, thick, heavy ass boat. The quality was there if it was actually laid up by Obsession. Good luck and I hope this helps."

I'm looking at a 1995 that is the heavier Obsession lay up. We drive it Saturday......... :D

There used to be a Marine Trade Show in Chicogo in the 90's and I saw the boats. The gellcoat was great on these boats, best I had seen.I wanted to be a dealer for them but couldn't sell a customer a boat that you had to pull the engine to change spark plugs (the cat).

Must have been a twin cause there's plenty of room around this party cat!
Gel work is nice, but now very dated...... Pink and Teal
