Ohio Fountain

Traveling back to Western New York, from Cleveland Ohio I passed a large Fountain being towed by a Ford driven by a hot looking blonde. This was sometime around 5:00pm near the Pennsylvania border. The Fountain's name was Life's Good, white with black graphics. Anyone here own it?

Wow...Nobody knows this Fountain? It was a sharp looking boat. Ohio plates on the trailer and as I said...a hot looking blonde driving the Ford that was towing it.

Nope... unfortunatly!

Padraig 05-28-2022 06:28 AM

Forgot that my wife got a pic when we passed it. Looking at it I see I was wrong about the tow vehicle. It is not a Ford it is a GMC.

At first glance I would have sworn someone stole my boat. On second look I don't have those drive showers.
Where did you see this? Have had mine forever and only seen one more like it. Was a 38 staggered boat that went to Canada years ago.

CRINGE!!! Why aren't those drives trimmed up for trailering!! Skeg damage in 5, 4, 3, 2........

Padraig 05-28-2022 11:16 AM

Ragged Edge, I first saw her pulling out of a gas station at the Ohio/Pennsylvania border. She continued east on route 90. After I filled up I too went east and saw her again about 15 miles west of Erie. Both boat and trailer had Ohio plates as did the GMC.

we don’t trim ours during travel. Never had an issue. Our boat sits so high up off the ground…

Understood...but, I also have a Fountain on a Myco and thanks to those lovely high X-Dims courtesy of Reggie, sitting on a level surface it's ok. But, just pull into or approach a steep grade (gas station, the top of an aggressively steep launch or driveway) and those skegs get real low, real fast!

My thoughts, why risk it?

Point taken.....even if YOU dropped the "E" in blond.

Yes, it'll keep the squat at bay but everything else screams 1/2 ton.

there is no way that you are going to damage those skegs. unless they are taking this boat and trailer rock climbing.

We tow our PQ 280 with a 1/2T Avalanche. Best I can figure, boat and trailer weigh around 7K#. With the exception of the fact that it was built with the tallest axle ratio Chevy offered (that wasn't supposed to be available for 4WD), it does fine. Ride leveling airbags keep it level, it controls the load well, and stops it fine. The only complaint I have with it is that axle ratio. It struggles with the hills around Cumberland, but, otherwise, it works.

Thanks. Brad.

10 ply tires, drilled and slotted rotors/hd ceramic brake pads made for mountainous terrain and or towing, Bilstein struts and shocks and I added hd control arm bushings, ball joints and tie rod ends. Boat trailer has four all stainless disk brakes. 345hp Hemi with 3.92gr posi. I upped my 1/2 tons capabilities, from the factory it pretty much sucked. Still screams 1/2 ton though. lol More than enough truck for what I'm towing. :hijack:

This is way off topic here, but the title caught my eye...Where is the original OHIO FOUNTAIN?????I believe it was an all Red 42 with white interior, race boat turned pleasure boat. My favorite old school Fountain.

dykstra 06-03-2022 07:15 AM

OHIO STEEL boat?

I Just saw a boat here in Fort Myers that I was told is the original Ohio Steel boat. It's an all aluminum riveted boat. I personally would have no idea but that's what I was told.

Is it an optical illusion or are those K-Planes mounted Horizontally?

the ones on the Fountain do look Horizontal to me, the ones on my Formula certainly followed the angle of the V

no illusion your eye's are correct

techman 06-03-2022 01:51 PM

Tabs

Early 2000's Fountain switch to mounting the tabs parallel to the water line for better leverage.

Brave? Not so. I have a new GMC 1/2 AT4 and it does a better job all around than my last GMC 2500 gasser did. I do not pull down the interstate at 70+ but this new truck feels just as solid as the last. All in how you manage the equipment in my mind.

If one was attempting to balance a boat at speed vs the water surface on which it was running one would likely assume that attempt would successfully begin with the planes in sync with the water surface. Why would any manufacturer defy hydrodynamic principals and mount them that way.

You are corect! You are looking at the azz of one genuine hot rod Fountain Lightning. Ask me how I know? Had several of them and they are always rigged to run their best!

Ohio Steel was not a riveted aluminum hull. It was a straight out of the mold 42 Fountain Lightning hull with a three man custom race cockpit. It is still out there, redone someplace in Cali I believe. Damn shame that someone did not respect it enough to keep it original. It is an icon of the brand. I have pictures of my son Christopher in the boat with Reggie at the 1000 Island Poker Run years back. Black and yellow biotch would run with them Merc Racing 1000 SC's.
