New Race Boat

Heard that a new race boat (47 foot Cat) designed and built by Mike Peters will be racing next year. It's called a Dolphin. Anyone heard or seen one yet???? Otto

Ron P 11-25-2002 09:18 PM

Hey Otto, did you ever get to try your boat with those monster motors? How was it? I've never seen motors that tall before. Kurt really does impressive work.

36spectre 11-25-2002 09:28 PM

Hi Ron . Tried the boat in late September . Only one test run told us that the old set up with the 1000 HP motors wont work with the new power. The boat was undriveable with that set up. 1500 hp 1:35 gears ,17 1/2 35 5 blade props and it just ran out of prop. The stern lift was soooo bad that when you punched the throttles the ass end would just leap 4 to 6 feet out of the water. Very scarry. Drives went the Craig to put in 1:24 gears and 1 inch spacers, props to Dennis to be cut to 16 inch and Jack is installing a balst tank. Kurt is working on the CG. All should be ready for Skaterfest. I never thought that this would be a 2 year project. Otto

36spectre 11-26-2002 06:56 AM

Ron, the motors were so tall I had to raise the hatches over 8 inches.

shawn 11-26-2002 08:07 AM

Otto, when is the next skaterfest?

Ron P 11-26-2002 08:59 AM

Kurt told me that this would be a major project. You're entering a realm that hasn't been ventured into before.

What did they dyno at?? Like 1500HP or something???

tachyon 11-26-2002 09:19 AM

Spectre36,

Any more info on the new Peter's cat? Where will it be racing SBI and PX? At 47' it can't race in UIM C1. I had heard (from Mike himself) that he was doing design work on cats exclusively for the Victory guys in Dubai who are now building hulls and rigging for other teams.

Who is laminating the hull?

Who built the 1500hp engines? Bacardi's new Sterlings are also making that hp.

Uncle Toys 11-26-2002 09:31 AM

Otto - "It's only money." :D :D

BODYSHOT1 11-26-2002 09:37 AM

Kurts Marine in Brick, NJ built the motors..

36spectre 11-26-2002 08:47 PM

I think that Skaterfest was waiting to have big Doug Lewis back at 100 percent before picking a date. Ron the new power dynoed at 1350 hp at 10 pounds of boost with 100 octane and about 6200 RPMs. Stand to reason the at 15 to 18 pounds of boost it should be over 1500 HP but we had no desire or need to try it on the dyno cause the boat would already be faster then I would ever drive it. I'm not sure that the buolder of the new Peters cat wants to have that info realesed yet. The first boat for next years race season was purchased today. The team is from........... I can't tell you that either at least not yey. Otto P.S Happy Birthday Uncle Toys.

Spectre36,

Is it a Victory cat? Come on... you're killing us with secrecy...

36spectre 11-26-2002 08:59 PM

Tachyon, All you Bad Boys will have to wait to find out who the builder is.

eMotiondriver 11-26-2002 08:59 PM

A friend of mine told me some info on this, They are going after the PX Cat class, for kilo record.

Should be fun to watch the outcome...

tachyon 11-26-2002 09:14 PM

eMotiondriver,

PX class??? kilo records???

MYPD designed a cat for someone building 47' cats?? I am not sure there is a business case? Is it the old tooling from Dirty laundry II? If not, `I won't be able to sleep tonight...

JT & DS are going to break their own PX class record next week at LOTO around the 200mph mark in DS' 36 Skater with giant hp. What can this new boat hope to achieve? Afterall, it's PX class - APBA may view this class as a threat to their "premier class" - Supercat if things get too interesting...

Come on, give a little info up!

36spectre 11-27-2002 05:58 PM

Tachyon, the builder really does not care about the money because his other bussiness compensates him so well. It's a project of love and a challenge to build the best cat.

tachyon 11-27-2002 06:18 PM

36spectre,

Intriguing...

Do they intend on selling them or is it a personal quest?

36spectre 11-27-2002 06:37 PM

I know that they sold one that will race next season.

eMotiondriver 11-27-2002 06:41 PM

PX class is an amatuer class basically, so I believe there's no reson for APBA to be concerned.

36spectre 11-27-2002 06:43 PM

New owner is a 3 time world Champ

tachyon 11-27-2002 08:42 PM

36spectre,

3 time world Champ in what class?

eMotiondriver,

No sure I agree that PX class is an "amateur"
class"... All classes are constructively amateur (i.e. you can't derive a legitamate income from the sport - I wish it was different...) at this point. If the measure is money, talent resources then certainly some people have a commitment equal to Supercat.

Ron P 11-27-2002 09:29 PM

Can't be Patel, he would never do that to Pete from Skater. The Instigator boys just bought new motors for next year.

Kurt? Nah he'd sell Bandit first.

Stuart Hyaim???? He's got the bucks.

Joe Calabro???? Three times champ? Not too sure.

Come on Otto, give it up!!!!

36spectre 11-28-2002 07:08 AM

Ron, one of the people on your list did buy a new boat their but not a cat and not for racing

Hauling Trash 11-28-2002 08:51 AM

Ron

Joe Calabro went for a ride in the Bad Boy .....

Mike

Alot of secrecy for an amateur endeavor...

36spectre 11-28-2002 11:16 AM

Do consider SBI amateur racing????

Ron P 11-28-2002 11:27 AM

No one considers any form of offshore racing as ametuer. Even SBI or PX class. At those speeds, you better be a pro.

I have to agree with you there Ron!;)

tachyon 11-28-2002 11:44 AM

Obviously, I agree. Again the reference to amateur was related to the inability to make a legitimate living and not to experience level or talent. I wish it was different!

36spectre 11-28-2002 11:57 AM

In 1987 when I won my first open class race in NPBA I got a check for $1500 which was a huge 1st place purse. My wife looked at the check and asked how we were going to make any money in offshore racing. Otto

eMotiondriver 11-28-2002 08:16 PM

To everyone when I say amatuer I am in no way stating that they are any less then the others. They are not racing for the year end prize money and is not as controled by the sancationing body as far as engine's drives etc...
I should have phrased it a little different. I raced P2 for a year. I considered myself an amatuer and a rookie.

Doug

Becca 11-28-2002 09:19 PM

.

Doug, can't you stay out of trouble :)

eMotiondriver 11-29-2002 08:19 AM

Becca, You know how it goes. I go in next Friday to get the leg operated on. I guess with the pain killers I should stay away from OSO for a while.:D
