BRP Ghost Motor Announcement
They have finally unveiled it!

I know its a "ghost" but can they at least show a picture of it for the nerds?

If the design has success, they certainly have powerheads available to go with more HP. Keeping a motor dry that lives in a a submerged box seems like a big task that wouldn't age well.

can't "tilt" up out of the water. can it? back into something, crack or break cowling, fills with H20, done. etc., etc.

It can tilt out of water, on one of the sites I found it. Still would like to see how they are sealing that up.

Yeah, because Verados are so loud and ridden with vibration issues. Game changer? Nah. Neat innovation? Sure.

Volvo has built similar designs, installed through a hole in the hull of yachts, mega yachts for 20+ yrs and haven’t seen on sink yet.
Also Merc, and there are thousands of that style in every cruise ship on the water. I say as long as the box stays sealed up, it’s pretty cool. Would love to see 300hp. Its actually a better retrofit for an I/o because it doesn’t need a bracket |

Also Merc, and there are thousands of that style in every cruise ship on the water. The newer ferries on Lake Erie are powered by similar. You can rotate them 360* while docking. They ain’t going anywhere. Then add, joy stick control, GPS control…., and you can hear the sales guys say, “sir, all we need is your platinum card and you are now a captain”! |
ive got an antique engine around here somewhere where the crankshaft is in the lower unit pretty cool setup whats old is new again!

I saw at the Miami show, yrs back, a complete, bolt on pod, I think jet, to retrofit IO’s.
Other than being a jet (as I recall), I thought it was brilliant!

IPS is not that similar to this.

Seems like some of you are seeing something different than I am. I see a regular old outboard with the powerhead location/configuration changed? Still bolts/brackets on the transom, but can be hidden under a swim platform or bustle, no?

I see a regular old outboard with the powerhead location/configuration changed? They took an outboard and bent the powerhead back 90 degrees. For those that want to hide the inherent ugliness of the powerhead sticking up and off the back of your transom. |
Neat idea, I still see issues of a partially submerged powerhead, 13 bro's standing on the swim platform and fully submerging it. Looks like it has a rubber intake tube for air, just seems like not much protection.
Time will tell if it can be more popular than the "L" drive innovation haha. |

This isn't even remotely close to Volvo IPS/ pods. The engines on those are in the engine room like on any normal I/O & inboard boat. |
