Steve's knowledge was incredible, so was his talent to engineer.
We designed and built the first boat, a 36 one-off cat (pictured above) that was referred to as an ultra-light (I wanna say it was around 1200 pounds ready-to-rig), about 1/3rd the weight of an equivalent sized Skater. First time wet, it had engines problems and ended up running a Merc and a Mariner. It won Key West on its maiden voyage. The boat with outboards ran like a raped-ape and could keep up with heavier Skaters with I/O power in rough water. See video. Watch the boat accelerate. Then watch the other boat in bigger seas. |
Steve 1 was brilliant.

Sorry to hear
I enjoyed his posts as well |
Steve was a genius. We rigged the 35 cheetah and yes it was about 1200 lbs max ready for rigging. With twin E F I s it was incredible. We rigged it with triples and it ran o so fast but unsteerable. Took the sheik for a ride and saw 118 on the airspeed indicator. An old Bill Gzell trick.
Take notice in the photo. The New Jersey registration number was still on. Gods Speed Friend |
