JUSTONCE 11-27-2002 08:15 AM

we need a big poker run out of cleveland to make up for this dissapointing news.

CigDaze 11-27-2002 08:15 AM

Too bad about Cleveland...It had the single largest turnout this year for a national race, if I'm not mistaken.

Mike J 11-27-2002 09:36 AM

Well looks like NO races out
West like everyone talked about
for 2003.
Mike J.

Pete B 11-27-2002 10:15 AM

The FT lauderdale race is a divisional race, the Art Kriner memorial
it is open to the first 50 boats to register. they are looking at it becoming a natioal race the following year. The Aqua toy store and several others are already on board with sponsorship.

RLW 11-27-2002 11:06 AM

Okay Mr. Ted Zoli, why is Cleveland not on the schedule for 2003?
Being from upstate New York, like yourself, it was one of the closest races for the Northern and Midwest fans to attend.
We are curious. Thanks for any replies.

Jan 11-27-2002 11:23 AM

I agree, where is Cleveland! I came from South Carolina both years and was planning a third trip!

Just a great race, at least Savannah is still on.

Yeah, what's up with Cleveland? I thought the city was on board for at least one more year?

It had a great racer turnout (10 supercats when the average for the other races was about 5), great spectating, and the chance for great racing with half of the race inside the breakwall and half outside.

Here's from this past year:

"Powerboat events to become regular"
08/09/2002
Bob Migra
Plain Dealer Reporter

American Power Boat Association President Ted Zoli said he expects the Cleveland Offshore Grand Prix will become an annual event.

The Cleveland stop is the only APBA national race in the Midwest. It is the fifth race of a nine-race series that culminates in the world championships in Key West, Fla., Nov. 21-24. Cleveland had its first national race last August.

"Cleveland is a wonderful place to run," Zoli said. "The last time I was in town was 20 years ago and the difference is unbelievable."

Zoli said the paid attendance at last summer's inaugural race was about 3,500, with probably at least that many more spectators watching from boats or other free locations. He said he thinks the attendance could easily double this weekend.

JUSTONCE 11-27-2002 01:22 PM

I live in cleveland and I can only say I knew it was to good to last.

overbored 11-27-2002 02:18 PM

DO NOT FORGET ST. CLOUD APIL 6TH, AND 7TH

BILL W 11-27-2002 02:56 PM

ONCE AGAIN NO RACES FOR THE PEOPLE THAT LIVE IN SOME
OF THE OTHER GREAT LOCATIONS TO RACE LIKE BALTIMORE
NEW YORK, NEW JERSEY,DELAWARE,MARYLAND ,VIRGINIA,ETC
THESE RACE SITES WERE GREAT,DONT GET ME WRONG RACING AT THESE OTHER EVENTS IS COOL BUT WE WOULD CERTAINLY LIKE TO HAVE SOME LOCAL VENUES.WHAT IS EVERYONE ELSES THOUGHTS ON THIS.

TomR 11-27-2002 04:31 PM

What about Cape Cod?

SteveS 11-27-2002 05:07 PM

What happened to Cleveland? And for a growing sport why are we wasting our time with the Bahamas? Not sure about all you guys, but I feal we would get a much better fan base and sponsor exposure if we kept the races in the states. Not to mention the expense and agrivation for the teams to make it to the Bahamas.
This sport will never grow if we have new venues each year and keep changing the schedule during the season. We have been talking to sponsors that have much more interest in National and Northeast exposure then going to some vacation island!

Frustrated racer!:(

tripps 11-27-2002 05:28 PM

Hey someone tell apba LI has alot of water in the great south bay, lots of marine facilites and lotsa fans that luv boatracing :D :D :D :D :D tripps

RLW 11-27-2002 05:38 PM

Steve,
I went to the Bahamas event and it was spread out all over the island. Not good when you have to take a $20 cab ride everywhere you went ($40 rountrip). I could see the pits across from Our Lucaya Resort, where we stayed, but couldn't take find a water taxi to get across the harbor. I don't even want to get into the VIP Pass fiasco. Don't get me wrong, we had fun but it wasn't convient to participate with the race festivities. I guess we could have rented a car and dealt with driving on the wrong side of the road. They really need to figure out the logistics if they are going to continue to race there. I say pull the race out of Freeport and go back to Cleveland.
Once again, Poker Runs are more appealing.

AIRTIME 11-27-2002 05:45 PM

I heared the cape race was a 3 year deal?

BJM 11-27-2002 05:55 PM

If I remember correctly, which is sometimes difficult in Key West. I believe Michigan was mentioned as a new site at the drivers meeting.

eMotiondriver 11-27-2002 06:08 PM

These are all National event's right? Any info on divisional dates?

It does suck that there is not a date for the Northeast.

I was looking to race agian with Becca next year and let her drive my boat, I was hoping for some closer events.

Ohh well.

Doug

Beckles 11-27-2002 09:35 PM

I hope they keep Cleveland some how, that is one of the best venues I've been to a race at ...

Honestly, I'm not sorry if Cape Cod isn't around again though ...

Someone mentioned St. Cloud, that's not shown because it's a divisional race (even though it sometimes gets more boats than some of the National races!).

WARRIORMAN 11-28-2002 10:23 AM

Milwaukee!!!!!! This is awesome!!!! There are hundreds of powerboats around lake Michigan, espically in the Chicago and Grand Haven area. Anyone need info on where to stay, let me know. This is my territory!!!! It's going to ROCK

Tom:p :p

DONZI 11-28-2002 10:32 PM
