Project ZT280 Checkmate Almost Done

So close but yet so far. I know it’s not a half million dollar cat with egg beaters or a 40 plus foot million dollar v bottom with staggered 1350’s, but it’s mine and it’s paid for. Supposedly my headers shipped from CMI last week and my new dual down shaft SCX from IMCO will be done in a few more weeks. It’ll be well worth the wait but I’m getting antsy. I cannot thank Team Saris at Performance Marine enough! Jason and Johnny are the best!

Very cool.

Should be a beast!

Very proud of that power package. The 3.8 Port Injected Whipples are amazing! The perfect fuel distribution allows us to run the whole engine leaner yielding big, big power.

No it's not, but it's what this site used to be and it was great.

I agree with INDY on this one. I'll bet that's going to be a fun ride when finished and dialed in!! Keeps us posted with updates as you get near testing.

No. That’s Daikers on 4th Lake in the Adirondacks. I put it in the water once after buying it to get a baseline with the tired 502 that was in it.

Thank you and I agree. No offense to the cat crowd or the oversaturated center console club, but my mom can drive a 39 foot cat with egg beaters, she’s not jumping behind the wheel of a 1000 hp 28’ Checkmate that you won’t see another one next to you at the dock.

Way cool!!!!!!

badmonkey 10-26-2022 06:12 AM

Small fast boats that require real skill to get the best out of give the most satisfaction on the water. The knowledge that your average joe couldnt jump in and run it to its potential is a great feeling.

Kinda like my Hydrostream days!

Agree with Team Saris. Most fun I ever had, along with most scared I have ever been, in a boat was my 90+ mph 24 Pantera. You had to DRIVE that boat!

Yup. I grew up on an all-but flatbottom 21’ Nordic hull, originally intended for a jet drive, with a 900HP blown 482 V-drive that would run 85MPH. My dad often called it the “homesick angel”. I can distinctly remember dad sawing on the wheel whenever we ran it hard. It seemed like a lot of work.

Theres an Allison saying that says:

I drive an Allison because I CAN drive an Allison!
