Because a mystic doesn’t need 4 engines!!! My 50 Mystic with 1850hp turbines ran 210 when it had plenty of room to get there. Qatar ran 244 in kilo with twin T55’s, how fast do you want to go!??!?! Lol

Both props are competing for clean water…maybe a single prop is more efficient. So far dual prop boats have faired better than quad propeller.
Not side-by-side, they're not. It they were actually staggered, maybe, where their blade radii actually intersected. But not as long as they have their own lane. Thanks. Brad. (937)545-8991 |

Records are set to be broken, right? When asked "how much is enough", J Rockafeller replied, "Just a few dollars more. By your logic, a boat doesn't NEED turbines, at all. I mean.... How fast do you want to go? Thanks. Brad. (937)545-8991 |

(937)545-8991 Before you talk about the multi engine outboards that is because they are in a way limited on the HP. The Mercury 600 OB are not intended for a fast light hull. The only go fast cat that somewhat recently used more than 2 was the DONZI thing. |

More drives = more drag. It's why a lot of go fast went to dual motors rather then triples.

Besides, even with standard drives, each prop overrides the drag induced by its own outdrive, right? There is a net gain for each. Yes, weight is a factor, but that's where turbines shine, right? Thanks. Brad. (937)545-8991 |

Hogie,
I did a quick Google and read the history of the variants on the T55. There were a few that topped the 4K SHP mark (There's one in development that is expected to put out 6500 😮), but they are considerably bigger in either diameter, length or both, and I'd think the prospect of retrofitting them would prove challenging. The latest article I've been able to find indicates the standard 2900-3000 SHP was what was used. Thanks Brad. (937)545-8991 |
